Reintroducing: Margaret “Maggie” Decker in Without You
Plot Bunnies: Waverly Ryu*
*of my Wings collection/series
The last time that Dick Grayson had seen heiress Waverly Ryu in person was the night that she had fled one of Gotham’s most luxurious nights of the year- leaving her now-ex-boyfriend on one knee, engagement ring still in the box.
That was the night she had left Gotham.
Now, years later, Dick works for the Bludhaven PD and Waverly had gone on to study law and help build houses in foreign countries.
With her unexpected return to Gotham and his day job- not to mention his continued vigilante activities- it was only a matter of time before the two of them crossed paths.
Maggie Decker and the four most important relationships in her life:
Hank Hall - “Older brother”
Gar Logan - “Little Brother”
Lorelei Grimes - Best Friend
Dick Grayson - Love of her life

“Does it ever drive you crazy, just how fast the night, changes”
Featuring: Maggie Decker and Dick Grayson, then and now.
Margaret “Maggie” Decker in Without You
“You want me to join the Titans? You do realize my career didn’t start off by helping people, right?”
“Trust me, I know. But you turned over a new leaf as The Phantom, and I want to give you a chance to continue helping people without killing them first.”
“So, we’d be teammates now not rivals?”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing, Mags.”
Otp 👶 asks for Maggie and Dick, all evens
2. what’s their parenting approach? do they raise their children differently than how they were raised?
Their parenting approach is very much of the kinder and more patient parenting. Neither Dick nor Maggie pressures Avery to do anything she doesn’t want to do and always accepts any decisions she makes. Dick wants to make sure his child isn’t raised anything like how he was by Bruce, and Maggie wants to make sure Avery knows her parents love and support her unlike Maggie’s parents did to her
4. who gets the most emotional seeing their children grow older?
Dick absolutely. Avery is his little girl and his “mini-me.” He wants her to stay little forever. He definitely tries to hide how emotional he gets though, but Maggie sees right through him.
6. how do they celebrate their baby’s first birthday? are they the type of parents to go over the top for birthdays/holidays?
Neither Maggie or Dick are into huge parties. For Avery’s first birthday, they had a “family only” party at Titans Tower for all the Titans family to attend. It was very simple and definitely not over the top.
8 how do they care for their children when they get sick? who checks on them in the middle of the night?
When Avery gets sick as a baby, Maggie is an absolute mess and is constantly checking to make sure she’s okay. As Avery gets older, whenever she gets sick, Maggie gets her whatever she needs. However, Dick is the one to check on her at night, as he’s usually awake anyway.
10. who spoils their children the most? who finds it difficult telling their children ‘no’?
If she has the means, Maggie is the one to constantly spoil Avery. Maggie didn’t have much growing up, and she wants to make sure that Avery never has to deal with that. Though, when it comes to saying “no” Dick is the biggest softie for Avery. All she has to do is stick her bottom lip out and give him pouty eyes, and he’s done for.
12. do their kids ever find them embarrassing?
Absolutely. Avery is constantly telling Dick he’s embarrassing whenever he’s being protective and overbearing
Questions for the kids:
14. how were they like as small children? did their personality change drastically as they grew older?
As a small child, Avery was definitely a calm kid. She didn’t throw many tantrums and she followed the rules. However, when she grew up and was denied by her parents to train to become a superhero, that’s when she started to rebel.
16. have they ever scared their parents?
Yes many times. One night, she took Maggie’s Phantom outfit and put it on and took to the streets to try and prove herself. Dick woke up in the middle of the night to find her missing and assumed something terrible had happened. Maggie and Dick weren’t able to get ahold of Avery to find out if she was okay, and they waited at the door all night until she came home.
18. which parent do they call out to whenever they have a bad dream?
When she was younger, Avery was attached to her mother’s hip. She stayed that way as she got older, but when her dreams started getting scarier, Avery started seeking comfort from her dad.
20. did they grow up to be different than what their parents had expected?
Oh hell yes. Dick and Maggie has assumed their child was going to be a rule follower and their good kid and she turned out to want to follow in her parents footsteps and cause them more stress than they know what to do with.
Dick and Maggie if they had a kid
Name: Avery Grayson
Gender: Female
General Appearance: dark brown hair, brown eyes, medium height, athletic build, great smile that her parents have no idea where she got it from
Personality: Avery is a very strong willed kid. She has always wanted to help people and will protect those she cares about to the death. She’s also stubborn as a mule like her parents are. She’s very personable and once you’ve met her, you constantly feel as though you’ve known her your whole life.
Special Talents: given the fact that her parents are both “heroes” she has obviously grown up training her ass off to protect herself and those she cares about. She’s particularly skilled in archery like her mother but also has gotten pretty skilled at hand to hand combat thanks to Dick.
Who they like better: Despite the fact that she looks a lot like her father, Avery is definitely closer to her mom.
Who they take after: Avery is very much like her father in more ways than just appearance. She is protective and caring and a natural leader. However, on the downside, she also has his dark side. His anger and rage that he tries to keep under the surface, he passed that onto Avery. It is something Dick has helped her learn to control and they have bonded over (as terrible of a reason to bond as that is).
Personal head canon: Despite wanting to keep her out of the life, Maggie and Dick are unable to keep Avery out of the crime fighting world and she ends up taking on The Phantom’s mantle for awhile before she creates her own role of The Phoenix. She also follows in her father’s footsteps for her day job by being a detective.
