Pinocchio (1940)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Pinocchio has a thunderstorm that starts about 43 minutes into the film, which has severe strobe effects. After a character points out that it has stopped raining, the lightning is done. There are three scenes involving magic that creates moderate strobe effects. These scenes happen near the beginning and end of the film, and immediately following the thunderstorm.
Near the beginning of the film, there is a very brief point-of-view shot of what a hopping cricket sees. Outside of this shot, all of the camera work is either stationary or very smooth.
Flashing Lights: 8/10. Motion Sickness: 1/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: This film shows human trafficking and transformative body horror. There is a brief visual gag about spanking children. There is brief culturally-outdated use of Native American caricatures as tobacco mascots.
NOTE: Our evaluation of this film’s 2022 remake will be available here on Tuesday Sep 13, and on Patreon on Friday Sep 9 at Patreon.com/MovieHealth
