dickollie ? Im so intrigued tell me your thoughts please..

OK so to get into this I gotta provide some context and I'm gonna try to be coherent but if I'm not making sense lmk

Sorry this is gonna be all over the place because there's a lot going into what got me into dickolllie as a concept.....

I'm going to be drawing on a lot of personal interpretation and like reading between lines and some straight up headcanons also but bear with me

ALSO also: all of this builds on the basis of dickroy and the assumption that dickroy is a thing in some way shape or form

1. dick and ollie personal chemistry and as characters:

I think Dick and Ollie have some very interesting similarities in terms of personality and behaviour, like they're both highly emotional, they are both dramatic theatric divas, quick to anger; their approach to/use of / relationship to sex as in sexual acts and relationships is VERY INTERESTING...

+ both are constantly in movement looking desperately forward / living in the future and the past but not necessarily the now/ prone to run away and self-isolate !!!!! idealistic and stubborn; hiding vulnerability behind humour/being funny guys with very dramatic depression spirals;

theres a certain rootless restlessness + ruthlessness in the sense of a dog that bites down and doesn't let go + self-hating and self-martyring and in a constant state of repressed guilt and subconscious seeking of atonement, atonement which they will ultimately reject mind you

PLUSSSSS their messy fucked up attachment styles + Ollies tendency to fuck off and neglect people who depend on him + Dick's intense sensitivity to rejection + Ollie course correcting into being overbearing triggering Dick's fear of intimacy and need for independence etc etc in a negative spiral until they both explode

like I think as a duo their dynamic would be highly entertaining and complimentary while simultaneously being incredibly volatile and combustible because of these similarities + the banter would be 👌

They don't really interact that much on panel except for specific events and those times are often quite fraught. they're both very emotional people and the interactions between them I've read the most are usually due to something happening to Roy lmao but anyway they don't really have much of a relationship in that sense in canon compared to say bruce and ollie who are friends (also a very interesting relationship) and have an established dynamic....

and when Dick and Ollie do interact one or both of them is usually Going Through it = they tend to end up yelling at each other and fighting and just nawt getting along

I don't think it's a stretch to say that, even under normal circumstances when nothing bad has happened, they simply wouldn't get along. Just two catty divas who dislike each other lol.

1. Because they would both have reason to blame / resent the other for hurting Roy in some way over the years (whether the blame is entirely fair is a different discussion)

2. Because they are so similar + self-hating they would (however subconsciously) recognise the self in the other. Like Jung said we often hate people in whom we recognise our own worst qualities!

So TO SUMMARISE THAT: imo they are very similar in ways that would cause a lot of friction and I think they would have a very interesting dynamic

2. how i even got to thinking about dickollie in the first place:

so I wrote a fic that I recently finished and am currently editing and will publish soon-ish in which Roy is believed to be dead.

Dick and Ollie are more or less forced to work together to figure out what happened; both of them grief spiral but in different ways, where Dick refuses to believe that Roy is dead and (goes a little crazy) trying to prove he's alive while Ollie believes that Roy is dead and wants revenge on the person or persons responsible.

During the fic they clash, they fight, they find some common ground and ultimately bond + develop some very strained and weird kind of friendship?? Throughout the fic Dick keeps comparing Ollie to Roy and all the ways they are different and the ways they are similar. Both of them end up (subconsciously) treating the other as a shitty Roy substitute / proxy.

Then there is a chapter in the fic where Dick is having a bit of a mental breakdown, Ollie shows up to give him a good old fashioned peptalk and Dick, being in a very bad mental place and acting out like a wounded animal, comes onto Ollie.... sekshually.....

In my fic, Ollie rejects him, but as I wrote the chapter I was SO intrigued by "what if?" that I decided to do an AU of my own fic, which is how I started writing this ongoing series, which is an alternate timeline where Ollie DOESNT reject Dick and like this they embark on a very unhealthy sexual relationship.

In this AU, Dick and Ollie still have the kind of foxhole bond of going through this terrible traumatic experience together and bonding, also both of them have alienated every single person who gives af about them and as a result only have each other to lean on > they are still using each other as proxies but now in a much more fucked up way. They also kind of become each other's Bruce and Dinah proxies lol

Very important to note that they are NOT in love they will NEVER fall in love which is part of what makes it so damaging to them both because all of this would be easier if they were in love but also love would have made it even more destructive.

They are friends with evil benefits essentially..... foxhole lovers.....

Long story short:

there is all this blame and resentment but also strange sort of fondness that develops or would develop. They are so similar and would trigger each other's insecurities and neuroses in the worst ways + they would find a lot of common ground and they are explosive and volatile and would be SOOO VERY TOXIC and this is without even getting into THE GUILT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLUS their sexual dynamic also intrigues me because they are both very dominant people but Dick would absolutely be the dominant one in this dynamic except Ollie would THINK he's actually the one "in charge".

Also my very personal headcanon which not everyone will agree with is that Dick has some pretty severe psychosexual issues that I think are fun to explore through the eyes of someone who is like comparatively sexually normal or at least not used to it the way Roy is used to his and Dick's dynamic. So it lends itself to some inchresting character studies....

Basically i just think they're very interesting and could get up to some seriously FUCKED UP shit

Also I think Ollie is very very sexy and I think it would be hot if they banged 👍👍👍👍👍

Hmm the thing with dickollie to me is it's not a traditional ship in that sense and its not romantic 2 me. You could say they're kind of weird friends who use each other as proxies to deal with their problems. They are not in love, in fact it would be EASIER for both if they were but they're not.

Like @dickroyfingersucking put it quite succinctly: they are foxhole lovers. So yeah obviously they do care about each other and there is a sexual attraction that grows from it but at its core its two very isolated people unable to cope with grief and who both have a tendency to use sex when they don't know how to deal with big emotions.

it's basically an au of my own fic wip which is a canon divergent au so them fucking is at it's core still about Roy, because dick and ollie fucking is out of character to the point where its possible due to the extreme events of the greater fic context...

but some things I haven't had reason to mention in the fic series yet:

> Ollie has Dick listed as "Spooky Jr" in his phone until they start fucking after which he names renames him S.J

> Dick doesn't have Ollie saved as a contact at all / if he does he's listed as "Bad Idea Do Not Engage" / he blocks and unblocks ollie multiple times a week

> generally they go weeks without contact whatsoever

> in my fic Dick has been batman for 3 years and he's already very reluctant to join justice league meetings but after he and ollie start fucking he doesn't show up AT ALL mainly because he won't be able to look dinah in the eyes

> most people think Dick and ollie just really hate each other but babs has a hunch which is why Dick also avoids her like the plague

> in fact Dick has alienated every other single person in his life including Alfred

> Ollie tries to sext sometimes but is very bad at it and thinks the 🌶 is a penis and he sends thirst traps but Dick leaves him on read

Dickollie is a ship?!?!?! Name of the fanfiction bestie...

It's a very rare rarepair from what I've gathered..... not a lot on ao3 sadly.... so I don't have any recs....

I've been writing a dickroy wip (where Roy is presumed dead and Dick and Ollie grief spiral) over the past couple months and there's a point in the fic where Dick comes onto Ollie in a state of hysterical grief so I made an AU of my own wip....

so in the Main Fic, Ollie turns him down like ew no but in the Alternate Timeline he doesn't..... and they get real weird with it.....

So I have a lot written but idk if I could post anything because you'd be missing like 60-70k words worth of context 🤔 but I could probably post a snippet if anyone's interested
