Coming home

You arrive at the station for the second time today, no less worn into a busy frenzy, but much more excited.  You are not an excitable person, but you’re excited now, ignoring the twinge in your leg as you bound up the stairs to the station’s lobby.  

You enter, scanning around you frantically to spot your boss amidst citizens.  

And then you see him.

You swallow, this big pool of emotion welling up in you, all that empty space inside you feeling something softer and stronger than most things you ever feel.  It feels like the way you feel when you think about your home in the mountains.  You walk quickly towards him, then slow to a stop near him, as if afraid he would vanish again in the fog, like last time you almost saw him.

“It’s good to have you back sir,” you say quietly, trying to keep your posture and manners in check even though there’s a tremble of holding yourself back.
