The fastest Ninja now comes in 1:12. Automaxx produced it first; Maisto on other hand presented an affordable version.
Of course, Maisto’s quality is not even close to the Automaxx, but still, it’s a model worth collecting. It is one of the well proportioned model by Maisto. This is one of those few models which are available in both 1:12 & 1:18 scales.
Ninja H2R has an extremely aggressive styling. Sharp blade-like contours resembles to fighter planes. No need to explain that this machine is all about speed.
So when Maisto presented it in 1:12, I quickly ordered one. This model was 68th in 1:12 collection, 99th overall !
Bike is excellant in looks and proportions with decent level of detailing. Lets check it out with the details pics.
Being a track version of Ninja H2, this one doesn’t have headlamp unit. Mirrors are replaced by spoilers. Notice those twin air-intake vents.
Fairing has a carbon fibre look. Ninja H2R bears Kawasaki’s legacy logo. Its bit oversized for this model.
Brake discs are excessively glossy. Maisto uses these same discs in multiple models. Sad thing is, discs are smaller for those ‘Brembo’ brake calipers.
Fuel tank is the only part made of metal. Tank extensions looks realistic though its a single part. Notice how fuel lid area is raised from other tank faces. Green trellis frame looks amazing.
View through rider’s position. Handle bar and instrument console is very well designed. Handle bar even features steering damper just like real bike.
Engine parts have a granular finish. Smoother one could have been a better option.
‘Super Charger‘ marked on engine. Another piece of fantastic detailing !
Seat is made of a plastic having soft finish.
Rear view. Screw hole looks inappropriate for such a nice model.
Aggressive styling continues in tail portion. Pointed tail looks awesome.
Star shaped rear alloy wheel. It lacks chrome inserts (which you get in Automaxx model). Tyre shape and size is perfect in proportion. Exhaust pipe has excessive glossy finish so as the brake disc.
Single sided swing arm is one of my favorite parts of this model. Maisto has brilliantly designed complex contour of swing arm and chain drive. These are most realistic components of this model.
Thats all for now, folks ! Have a great time.
Let me know your opinions in ‘Ask me anything’ Link is HERE
Automaxx ! Probably the best brand for motorcycle scale models. Somebody told me, “If you have Automaxx models in your collection, then you are one serious (rather obsessed) collector” Its really true. Automaxx models are too close to the perfection in design and quality.
Speaking about K1300R, in simple words, the bike that Amir Khan used in movie ‘Dhoom 3′.
I knew about this bike even before this movie. But after watching the movie, I thought I should have this one on my shelf. Automaxx models are not readily available in India. You have to import them, with a shipping price that costs more than the model ! But last year, I got a chance to visit Germany for business trip. I utilized this opportunity and 8 Automaxx models joined the collection. Black colored K1300R is one of my favorite since then.
Crazy Eyes !
BMW bikes are known for asymmetric design. As per BMW, their design is ‘Precisely Right’. They design each and every part for necessity; not for looks. Larger unit on right is a regular lower beam where as smaller one is upper beam / Passing light.
Don’t miss the air intake vents. Another area with asymmetry.
ABS sensor : Left disc brake features ABS sensor disc. This is an amazing piece of detailing. Automaxx had a chance to use same disc on other side too, for cost purpose. But, Right side disc doesn’t have ABS sensor. Just as original bike ! This is where Automaxx is superior to other brands. Maisto usually uses same glossy disc parts to most of their models.
Exhaust pipe has amazing chrome finishing. Tyres have perfect fit with wheel rims unlike newray models. I think I should post one comparison between Automaxx, Maisto and Newray models. That will be interesting. Let me know in section ‘Ask me anything’
Single sided swing arm on rear with propeller shaft casing looks as realistic as actual bike.
Engine is also detailed very well. Finishing could have been a bit smoother but that’s just fine.
Coming to the rear side, we can witness another speciality of Automaxx models. The License Plate (OR the Number plate). Automaxx provides very realistic looking sticker on license plate, whereas Maisto models have ‘Maisto’ sticker on them. Most of the Newray models doesn’t even get license plate :D
Another interesting thing with this model, is that you can get customized license plate ! YES. This added feature is only available with some of the sellers in Europe. Of course, at added price of 8-10 Euro. The one I purchased has default German license plate.
Instrument consloe sticker is really cool and readable too.
At last, we have probably only con with this model. When you see from riders position, You hardly can see the console. I think this one point is acceptable for such a great model.
Overall, This is one amazing model of the collection and will always have its special front place on display shelf.
Continuing from previous post : Vespa 946 by Newray
Front wheel right side : Good to see that Newray have used rivets to attach wheels. No more ugly screws.
Rear wheels is also a same part. Exhaust has chrome guard which is pretty realistic. ‘946′ marked on right engine panel.
Front wheel left side : Brake discs are excessively glossy, but perfect in size. Brake caliper and suspension are also very well detailed. Dont miss the realistic tyre treads.
Rear wheel also carries same level of detailing in brake discs, caliper and engine part. ‘Vespa’ logo on left engine panel.
Top view : Probably first time, newray has provided Instrument console sticker in 1:12 model. Handle bar, mirrors, key ignition switch shows excellant level of detailing despite of being very small parts. Single saddle and luggage rack that are signatures of 946, are also designed very well
Old school circular headlight and Vespa 946 branding on front panel.
Brown colored saddle that resembles soft leather, makes this model look more premium. Silver colored 946 has red leather saddle.
Here we go ! Starting with my one of the most favorite model : Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R.
I knew about ZX-14R since long time as an only competition to Suzuki Hayabusa. So when I saw this Maisto model available online, I ordered it without wasting any time. This one was the sixth model to join the squad and only one came from snapdeal. I searched for a green color as this one is a Kawasaki model but there was only white color available. (I got this same model in green color in late 2018 as a assembly kit. Will post about that some other time).
Speaking about the bike, It’s one of the heaviest model of the collection. White color combined with black looks amazing. Paint job is decent. There are some edges which are lacking a level of finishing. Not sure whether that happened during shipping or came from factory. What I liked about this model, is the attention to the details. Alloy wheels, Petal disc brakes, Mirrors, Instrument console stickers are designed and manufactured with perfection. Some of these features are usually absent from Newray models.
Undoubtedly, Bike is good with proportions. But craftsmanship is another important criteria in deciding quality of scale model. Craftsmanship matters on how different parts are joined together, how many screws are visible on model, etc. In case of this model, only 3 screws are visible out of them 2 are attaching wheels to the bike. This is really good or a motorcycle scale model. I have seen around 6-7 visible screws on some models. It’s not easy to hide all the screws in motorcycle scale model as they do it in car models. Considering this, Maisto has done a remarkable job with this bike model.
Petal disc brakes are one of the specialties of this bike. Maisto has exactly replicated discs from real bike. These same disc are used in other Ninja models like ZX-10R, ZX-6R from Maisto. Though discs are good with shape and proportion, not so good with texture. They are excessively glossy which makes them look toy-ish. Maisto provides matte discs in some Ducati models. They are much more realistic in looks. Brake calipers are ‘Nissin’ branded which is again, nice attention to detailing.
License plate bears ‘Maisto’ sticker. Automaxx models usually have OEM mentioned on license plate whereas, most of the ‘Newray’ doesn't even have license plates !! Headlight console is not smoked like the real bike. But still, full marks or shape and proportion.
Though Kawasaki sells ZX-14R in India, its very rare. I got a chance to see this bike personally when I visited Paris in July 2017. In European markets, ZX-14R is branded as ‘Kawasaki ZZR’
