I recently took advantage of DiedInHouse.com's recent Poltergeist promotion and searched the "death history" of my house back in Texas.
Unfortunately, there were no OFFICIAL records of anyone having died in the house but it did list the name of a previous tenant who had passed away:
He was listed as having died in January of 1995, just months before we moved in to the house.
Now this name wasn't new to me. I knew that Mr. Westmoreland was the last owner of the house and that he was dead because his daughters, who had inherited the house, had sold it to us.
When I was younger we used to joke around that he had died in the house and that his ghost was still there. And, according to what my mom heard a few years after I moved out here, he did.
Die in the house, that is.
To be honest this didn't surprise me.
When we first moved in I remember my mom having constant dreams about an old man standing in the living room and there was also the time I actually saw an old man standing in the living room.
I was home alone that night and the phone was ringing in the other room. I opened my bedroom door to step into the living room and realized there was an old man blocking my path. It took a moment before it sunk in that AN OLD MAN WAS STANDING IN THE LIVING ROOM.
As soon as it did register, I slammed my door shut and went in to freak out mode. It took me a few minutes to gain the courage to re-open the door and when I did he was no longer there.
Guess he just wanted to let me know he was still there.
So yes, even though there may not be any official record of him having died in the house, I'm convinced he did.
