If we look at Arthur's bane as a whole it is probably one of the most tragic yet altering episodes in Merin. It's where Mordred comes in again of course. But now as it progresses we come to first learn that Arthur's bane or doom is Mordred, later on we are shown Mordred fatal wounding Morgana to save Arthur's life, thus altering the course of destiny, or at least an open window for change, yet when we meet the Diema, or the key of all knowledge, also known as the weird alien in the caves, we are left with the knowledge that Mordred is no longer Arthur's bane, it is now Arthur himself.

This poses an interesting look into the altering of the shows course. It shows us that now Merlin has a chance to keep Mordred from once more sealing Arthur's fate only if Merlin gave him another chance, yet he's set in his idea of Mordred thus setting the stones of destiny in their places. But just the fact at one stage in the series Merlin could of helped Mordred and given us a good mordred emrys magic reveal finale. But no, he had gotten in his head, he did not perseve the fact that the tide changed, yet he was the one to set it on its final course. He was the one to place the stones of destiny down and he didn't even know it. It's tragic. More so in every possible way
