So I have an idea… well four ideas(?)…
Capitano/Thrain or Rerir adopts a kid! Specifically a Khaenri'ah kid, or even more specifically, an MC who was reborn AS a Khaenri'ah.
A.C means Route A version Capitano
B.C means Route B version Capitano
A.R means Route A version Rerir
B.R means Route B version Rerir
(I don't know how comfortable you are with writing pronouns that aren't for an MC who is reborn/turned into an already established character so for now I'm going to keep them gender neutral)
In essence MC is a person on Earth who didn't have a… good, family (I don't know how comfortable you are with writing bad/ab*s*ve families so I'll leave it at that) and took comfort in Genshin impact. So when they reached the latest update (I'm pretty sure it's 6.4?) they were so very happy. Though during the entire game they were ANGRY about what happened to Khaenri'ah and felt so bad for the monsters and cursed Khaenrians.
Anyways, they died from a… incident, in the family that was caused by their parents. They were scared, sad, but also happy because they could finally be FREE.
Except they weren't.
They opened their eyes and they were a TODDLER in a medical bed. Apparently in this new life the previous holder of the body took a bad tumble and got a bad head wound. Apparently said new body DIED for a brief moment before the healers managed to save them. MC realizes that when the toddler died, they took their place. They feel bad for taking the place of an innocent child but they couldn't help but be grateful for a new beginning.
Of course they faked amnesia/not remembering anything, but considering they're a 'toddler' now their new family wasn't surprised(memory can be fleeting) and took extra care of making sure MC was ok and re-established the bonds they had.
(Maybe MC has older siblings[maybe 2?], ones that are about 10-15 years older[MC was an accident, a HAPPY accident] and got VERY protective of MC after their tumble. Their new parents are also very caring and gentle.)
Their new family is a stark contrast to the one they had before so at first they are weary but eventually they warm up to their new family. in their previous life they clung onto ANY scrap of affection given, even if fake, so having affection so readily given is so confusing.
(Also in this new life they still have the name MC)
Then MC figures out they were reborn in Genshin Impact and thankfully, none of the actual characters, just a random NPC. They were relieved at that fact.
But then when MC was about three, so a few weeks after their tumble, they saw their eyes. They nearly swore/cursed when they saw the bright blue, STARY eyes looking at them with short and fluffy black hair framing their face.
They weren't just an NPC, they were a KHAENRIAN NPC. They felt dread claw at them and fear strike them so they started crying because even if they have the mind of an adult, they ARE a toddler in this new life (and they had fully embraced the role, wanting a new life though they kept the memories of Genshin Impact close to their heart). Their family rushes in asking what's wrong and MC catches sight of their new family's STARY eyes.
MC doesn't know how they didn't see it before but now the eyes are burned into their minds. Eventually they calm down and start living their life to the fullest. They are still painfully shy and often hesitant to speak/when they speak they are quiet, but they find love in creative arts like painting, drawing, making music, singing/humming, and just MAKING things. They especially love making new memories and experiencing new things.
But then… it happens.
This is where we diverge into the four paths.
A.C part 1:
MC had figured out they were in ancient Khaenri'ah years ago so they were now six. They were so very nervous for the Calamity but eventually, they forget about it. Perhaps they even met Capitano before the Calamity or something when MC is 4 but also very lost (just a throw away idea so it might not make it into the actual story). Either way they are six when the Calamity happens. They witness so many either die or be turned into monsters, including their own family.
Their older brother, Hector, grabs them while their older sister, Enyo, clears the path ahead, both of their swords (the two are knights/soldiers) swinging and cutting down enemies. Their parents had stayed behind to try and help the others. MC is crying and so very scared.
But then they see it, Enyo, corruption starting to affect her. Then Hector stumbles away from MC, stumbling over to Enyo. MC's siblings are being CORRUPTED and the two are CRYING, trying to tell MC to run.
MC's tears start falling even more and they are scared but they still hurry over to their siblings who are backing away. Then Enyo pressed a knife/dagger into their hands, telling MC that if she or Hector starts attacking MC, then Enyo needs MC to either be brave and kill them, or to run, but preferably run. MC can only nod and watch as the two turn into MONSTERS.
MC backs away, trembling in fear as their siblings- no, the monsters that took them over, look at MC. But MC steels their nerves, ignoring the pain that seems to claw at them (a curse), and holds the blade shakily. The two are in PAIN and MC could relieve that pain, could make the two not feel so much regret for future actions that they will have no control over, so they do.
They kill the monsters that used to be their siblings and CRIES. MC is crying so much that they're surprised they still have tears left. They know their parents are dead or turned into monsters and their siblings are dead at their OWN HANDS. MC clutches the blood soaked blade and RUNS.
Runs from Khaenri'ah, runs from the Archons that destroy their home, runs from the monsters that used to be innocent people, and runs from the area in which they killed their older siblings. They regret it so much but they KNOW that the two would regret any future actions that they would have no control of as monsters so if MC could stop their suffering, prevent them from doing anything that they would later regret… they would do it, no matter how much it hurts MC to do so.
Eventually MC collapses, curling up and CRIES even MORE, and pain wracks their little body as a curse takes hold. Their lungs burn from running so long, their legs burn and tremble, burns from the fire that consumed their home occasionally dot their legs or arms.
When MC wakes up they are not a monster… they are still THEM but they can FEEL a curse. They were cursed with immortality like Capitano, Pierro, and Dainsleif where. Why THEM!
Why couldn't they had just been a mindless beast…
-Timeskip 500 years-
MC had adventured throughout their 500 years alive. The rot didn't affect them surprisingly, they just couldn't die nor age. They were STUCK as a 6 year old child (quite annoying because sometimes they wanted some alcohol on the bad days). They had learned to use their blade so they could use that quite well. They never let go of the blade, NEVER, it was the last gift of their beloved older siblings after all.
They mostly spent their time in the forests and just exploring. They had long sense accepted that they couldn't have done anything to stop the Calamity (doesn't stop them from wishing they could have saved their family, that they could've done SOMETHING for their older siblings).
Burns littered their arms and legs along with a few other scars, one on their neck from that one time they…
They were wearing a sweater and shorts (from a kind old woman they only stayed with for a few weeks before leaving. They had long sense learned to not stay in one place for long lest they wish for misfortune to fall upon those they had grown to care for). They were barefoot but they didn't mind and their feet don't hurt much, if at all, when injured or cramping from that one time they were electrocuted.
Currently they were walking through the forest, aware of eyes on them but they didn't really care, they couldn't die after all and if someone DID try to kidnap them (again) they would just stab the person or bite them, perhaps even kick them before running (they had gotten quite good at running).
They were unaware that the eyes belonged to a certain First Harbinger.
B.C Part 1:
MC figured out that they had been reborn a few years before the canon timeline takes place and honestly, they felt RELIEF. Their village was full of Khaenrian descendants so almost everyone had stary eyes.
Then it happened, the abyss invaded their home. Their older siblings were struck down protecting MC, and their parents were killed when their home collapsed. MC's lungs burned with smoke, tears falling from their eyes.
They were only 6, what could they do?
They could do nothing but run, just as their older siblings had commanded before their untimely deaths.
So they ran.
Ran far from the burning village.
Ran far from countless dead bodies.
Eventually they ran until they no longer could, their burned legs collapsing, their adrenaline being snuffed out. They curled up in a flower field and laughed. They laughed and laughed and laughed.
How funny, they died from a terrible family in their first life but now, when they had a second chance with an amazing family and village, they were taken from MC.
They threw an arm over their eyes, tears streaming down their face.
MC fell asleep and when they woke up, they got up, and started walking.
They didn't know where to, just that they wanted to get as far from their ruined home as possible.
Then before they knew it, three days had passed and they were getting REALLY hungry. MC managed to hunt a creature and ate it after cooking it.
They spent three months like that, all alone and in the wilderness.
Then one day, MC's head was up in the clouds before they were startled away from their thoughts by them tumbling down a cliff.
They landed roughly on the sand and they heard a worried cry along with hurrying feet.
They opened their eyes and there in front of them… was the traveler (I'm just going to go for Aether in this storyline), no Paimon in sight.
MC blinked, Aether blinked.
"Are you ok?" Aether broke the silence. MC nodded slightly before their stomach grumbled hungrily.
Aether chuckled and gently took their hand, leading them to a nearby pond and grabbing a makeshift fishing rod. He patted the space next to him on the rock he sat on and MC obliged.
Aether started fishing and then he got something but it wasn't a fish. A small girl, Paimon, appeared on the other end of the fishing line, much to Aether's shock and MC's amusement.
Aether told them his story and when he got to the point where Lumine and him were separated, MC rested a hand on his arm, understanding in their eyes.
Paimon declared herself Aether's guide.
"And what about you?" Paimon asked MC.
"My family and entire village is gone. I think I'm the only survivor," MC whispered.
Paimon's hands flew to her mouth in shock before the fairy barreled into MC in a hug.
"Well then you can join me and Paimon on our journey to find Lumine," Aether told MC.
MC nodded, excitement building despite everything that's happened these past few months.
"We'll be going to Mondstat first!" Paimon cheered and MC almost grinned excitedly before dread pooled in their gut. Venti was there, BARBATOS was there, and he was one of the Archons responsible for the destruction of Khaenri'ah.
"What's wrong?" Aether asked, noticing her dread.
"My eyes…" MC whispered, touching a finger below their left eye. Paimon seemed to realize that MC was afraid of people seeing their eyes, seemed to realize that MC was a Khaenrian.
"Don't worry! I'll get something!" Then Paimon disappeared.
Aether and MC stayed there on the beach, waiting.
"Why are you so scared of people seeing your eyes?" Aether asked softly, his voice kind but his eyes holding worry.
"They mark who I am and people don't like people like me," MC simplified it down a lot, not wanting to get into specifics.
Aether was about to ask another question but then Paimon appeared, holding a strip of fabric, a blindfold.
"Thank you," MC whispered, taking the fabric and wrapping it around their eyes.
"Mondstat here we come!" Paimon shouted in glee, flying a bit ahead.
(this ones a bit shorter)
A.R Part 1:
(This route is similar to A.C's but it is also different)
When MC was four they were exploring Khaenri'ah with their older sister, Enyo. MC was looking around in awe but also slight sadness. This was a beautiful and AMAZING nation, but soon it would be no more than rubble and cursed residents.
The something shiny caught MC's eye, it was a golden locket with a butterfly design on it's front. Enyo noticed what her little sibling saw and together the two walked over to the vendor. The stall was full of jewelry, all of it clearly handmade.
The locket gleamed in the light, the butterfly design on the front was engraved into the locket before seemingly filled in with a purple gem-like material. The surface was smooth and the small chain had a few little crystal charms. It quite simply looked very pretty.
MC wouldn't buy it, nor would they ask for it, they knew how expensive these things could get.
Then MC caught sight of a brown haired man who was accompanied by a green haired woman, both looking at the jewelry.
It was Rerir and Tholindis. MC kept their eyes off them, being careful not to tense or stare. Eventually Enyo saw them and brightened, pulling MC over to them. MC panicked in their head because, why did Enyo seem to KNOW these two!
"Rerir! Tholindis!" Enyo called, a bright smile on her face. The two turned around and Tholindis brightened at the sight of the two.
"Enyo! I didn't know you were back from your mission already! Oh? And is this the beloved MC I've heard about," Tholindis walked over to them, crouching in front of MC, her smile gentle, her eyes bright.
Rerir huffed in amusement, following his lover.
"Yup! This is MC," Enyo beamed.
"Well, they're quite adorable and they seem well behaved," Rerir commented.
MC took a step back, still holding Enyo's hand tightly. They didn't like this.
"Yea… they were already well behaved before but after the… incident, they're so much quieter and seemed to curl in on themself," Enyo commented sadly, letting go of their hand and instead ruffling their hair.
"Can we come over? It's been sometime since we've seen Hector and your family," Rerir asked, his voice soft as he looked at Tholindis cooing over MC.
Enyo nodded. "Sure! It can be just like old times!"
MC wanted to shake Enyo and ask what they were doing but MC couldn't give away the fact that they were from ANOTHER WORLD, they were also being cooed over by Tholindis (it was nice) and MUCH shorter than their older sibling.
Later that day MC had nearly forgotten about Tholindis and Rerir coming over until they heard a knock at the door. MC was watching their mother and father cook food, occasionally teasing one another with bright smiles.
Hector, the eldest of the trio of siblings, opened the door and welcomed the two lovers and motioned for them to come in. Rerir greeted Hector fondly while Tholindis was hugged by an excited Enyo.
The four of them talked before MC's mom wiped her hands and entered the living room.
Soon MC's dad finished dinner and set it out on the table, joining the other five. MC could only follow and listen as the six of them seemed to be friends.
Apparently MC's mom had babysat Rerir as a kid and then Hector became friends with him while Enyo became friend with Tholindis. Apparent MC's older siblings are how the two MET and started dating!
MC's mind spun with the new information because THIS WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE GAME!! But then again… MC didn't originally belong in this world.
Then MC's dad picked MC up by the armpits and showed them off proudly to Rerir and Tholindis like a proud peacock.
MC's mom laughed fondly as Tholindis and Enyo cooed over MC while Hector and Rerir watched the the two woman coo over the four year old.
A year goes by and MC had gotten used to Tholindis and Rerir coming over practically every day or every other day. The two even had their own room in the house. And MC had even met Dainsleif multiple times/he babysat them sometimes because of Rerir. Although the Dainsleif was awkward, he was kind and soft, and also spoiled MC.
It was MC's birthday and they were having the time of their life. They had just finished dinner and the entire family plus Rerir and Tholindis were eating cake. MC was giggling at something Enyo shared. Hector snorted and shared his own view of the events that had transpired making MC giggle even more as their siblings were on either side of them on the couch.
Then Tholindis stood up and grabbed her bag, Rerir's eyes widened in realization before the man grinned softly.
Tholindis grabbed something from her bag, a small box with a ribbon, and walked over to MC and handling the child the present. Rerir rested his hand on Tholindis' arm, his eyes soft. When MC opened the box they saw the same locket they had been interested in ever sense they saw it last year. MC felt tears prick their eyes as Tholindis explained that she and Rerir saved up some money to buy it for them.
MC did something they almost never did to someone who wasn't blood related to them (so they only did it to their parents and siblings). MC leapt forward and hugged the two as best they could with their small arms. Rerir tensed and Tholindis seemed to freeze. Then the two quickly brought their arms around the child.
Enyo seemed to be holding in tears and clenched her fist tightly, looking at Rerir and Tholindis in slight jealousy. Hector was no better, drooping sadly at the fact Rerir and Tholindis got one of his little siblings amazing hugs.
That was the day MC got closer to them and managed take a picture (yes I'm saying they have cameras because they were an advanced nation) of the two lovers, along with a photo of their siblings and parents. They then put the photos in the locket before clasping it shut and getting Rerir to put it on them.
Another year goes by and the day MC has DREADED has finally appeared.
Tholindis accepted Rerir's proposal which was different than in canon, but that proposal meant the end was coming. Soon Tholindis would find out the truth about Rerir, soon she would go through a portal, soon Rerir would give in to the abyss and become one of the sinners.
Then Tholindis figured out the truth of what Rerir did but… she didn't say anything, didn't leave him, nor did she hint at KNOWING about it. The only reason MC knew was because despite their looks, they still had the mind of an adult who used to live on Earth were this world was just a game, and the way Tholindis acted hinted at her knowing more than what she said.
MC never confronted her though because they saw how she and Rerir were so in love, how Enyo and Hector seemed so HAPPY at their friends finally being engaged.
Then it happened. The Calamity started.
MC ran through the village, having been at school when it started, running home, or trying to find Rerir and Tholindis. Then they saw it, Tholindis pushing Rerir out of the way of an oncoming Moon Gate, saying she knew the truth but she still loved him. She pushed Rerir out of the way to prevent him from being taken. MC cried out and Rerir saw MC, tears welling in his eyes.
Rerir was about to approach her, to get her away and to safety when a stream of fire erupted, separating them. MC flinched back, stepping back from the fire and tripping, landing hard on the ground. Then their eyes widened as a nearby building started to collapse. The last thing they saw was Rerir screaming their name, fear in his eyes, rushing towards them, a hand outstretched, and then the building collapsed, burying MC under it.
MC woke to hands dragging her away, it was Enyo and Hector, both clearly struggling to fight back against the curse.
They dragged MC away as fangs started to grow, as their nails turned to claws, as their eyes started to turn monstrous. Eventually the two had dragged MC far, FAR away from Khaenri'ah but… but they were losing their humanity quickly.
They whispered apologies to MC, pressing a dagger into their small and uncalloused hands. Then Hector and Enyo stepped back, facing each other, their swords drawn, apologies on their lips as they stabbed each other and let the other stab them. They killed each other and willingly died.
MC's hands flew to their hands, tears streaming down their face.
They were propped up against a tree, their legs, arms, and torso burned, a few burns on their face, the ends of their hair singed. They could feel pain not only from the burns and the building collapsing on them but also from SOMETHING ELSE (a curse).
MC soon fell back into the depths of unconsciousness. When they woke their injuries were healed, though scarred over, their siblings bodies were replaced with monstrous beings, both dead. They held in their bile and ran. They ran and ran and ran.
They had to get away.
Away from Khaenri'ah.
Away from the place their siblings died.
Away from the place that held their parents bodies.
Away from the place that Tholindis was taken in.
Away from the place Rerir would fall into rage and turn into one of the five sinners.
They ran until their legs gave out, until their lungs burned, and until they had no more tears to shed.
-Timeskip 500 years-
MC had ventured throughout their 500 years alive. The rot didn't affect them surprisingly, they just couldn't die nor age. They were STUCK as a 6 year old child.
They were barefoot, wore a sweater and shorts (from a kind old man who took them in for a bit but she left soon. They couldn't bear to bring tragedy and ruin to him), and their beloved locket was always on them. They never took the locket off, always took great care of it, and sometimes they even opened it to look at times long sense lost.
MC had met Lumine (yes in route A the traveler is Lumine while in route B the traveler is Aether) and Paimon on the beach where the learned of Lumine's story. MC decided to venture with them and before the three encountered Amber, they grabbed a blindfold to cover their eyes, explaining to the traveler that people didn't like MC's eyes and what they were associated with.
Lumine had questions but she didn't ask.
MC played a vital part in each nation, each of the nation's Archons growing to care for MC in some way. MC even became friends with them, the dragons/sovereigns (around MC the corrupted Soveriegn's minds clear and eventually, the effect was permanent) grew to care for them and view them as a hatchling, and MC gained MANY new friends. Venti found out about MC's eyes and despite their fears, Venti didn't reject them, hunt them, or try to hurt them… if anything, he grew sorrowful and even apologized over and over before MC got him to stop.
MC had so many older siblings now but they would never forget Hector and Enyo, or Tholindis and Rerir, or their parents, or Dainsleif. When they met Dainsleif with Lumine and Paimon, the man seemed confused about MC. He seemed to think that MC was familiar, even commenting on it, but saying that MC COULDN'T be the kid he knew, the one he babysat and considered a niece/nephew because they were DEAD, they had to be…
MC never corrected him, and they hid the locket beneath their sweater whenever around Dainsleif because it was recognizable and they KNEW that he remembered that locket.
So they never said anything despite wanting to, and they kept their blindfold up around him as well.
Currently they were heading to Nod Krai and MC was worried. Rerir would appear there would perhaps even RECOGNIZE MC despite his current mental state.
They could only hope Rerir didn't recognize them.
B.R Part 1:
MC's village had been raised to the ground by the Abyss and everyone was DEAD. Their family gone, dead in front of them, their neighbors gone, their village destroyed.
They ran, far, FAR away. They ran as far as their little legs could carry them, they ran until they had no more tears to shed, they ran until they collapsed… only a few miles from Mondstat's gates.
They had collapsed, dragging themself under a tree, their burns and scratches untreated and probably going to get infected. But at this point… they didn't care, they wanted to rest. Perhaps they could even meet their family in Teyvet again if they died?
Monsters (Khaenrians their mind whispered) approached, weapons in their grip as their intentions were clear, killing MC.
The last thing they saw was a stream of fire and a figure with bright red hair hurrying over to them.
When MC woke they thought they were back home, that it had only been a nightmare, and then they felt a sharp pain in their body. It wasn't a nightmare… it was REAL.
MC shot up, eyes wide and frantic. Were they kidnapped? Where were they?! They hissed in pain and then two warm hands gently grasped their shoulders and pushed them gently back to lay down again.
The person had red hair and ruby eyes that had a gold glint.
It was Diluc.
Diluc, upon seeing their eyes, seemed to freeze before leaving and a few moments later, a man with an eye patch and blue hair was brought it, Kaeya.
They asked MC some questions, specifically why they were alone, why they were injured, and if there was anyone else with eyes like theirs.
MC answers to the best of their abilities, everyone else was dead, their village was destroyed and they barely escaped, and their entire village had stary eyes but they were the only survivor.
Kaeya seemed to understand and when Diluc left to get some fresh air (he hated the fact that a CHILD was hurt so badly like MC was) he let MC get a closer look at his own eye, a STARY eye.
MC had forgotten about that and when they saw it, they were reminded of their big brother who had blue eyes like them, Enyo had golden eyes. When Diluc came back in MC had fallen back asleep, still overwhelmed with everything.
The two brothers (even if Diluc was reluctant to call him that, Kaeya was still HIS BROTHER and anyone who said otherwise was insane) talked about what to do with MC. Eventually they came to the agreement that MC would stay with Diluc for now while Kaeya would try to locate the ruined village.
When MC woke up again Kaeya had a map and tried to get MC to point out where their village was. MC tried to recount what they passed when running but it was hard because it was such a blur, and when they tried recounting what was around their home, they burst into tears much to the brothers' worry.
Eventually Kaeya managed to get a general area and he left. Diluc was a bit awkward but was still kind. Over the next few days MC healed with Diluc watching over them, and the two getting closer (MC didn't want to get close to another person just for them to either betray them or die).
Then Kaeya came back, and needed to talk to Diluc alone. MC listened in of course, listened as Kaeya revealed he found the village but it was in ruins, bodies strewn in a few places, buildings burnt and a few collapsed. It was a MESS and far worse than Kaeya described (MC would know after all, they SAW it after all).
A few hours later and Diluc and Kaeya sat them down saying that MC could stay with them if wanted. MC knew these people (from their time on Earth) so they trusted them.
Weeks go by and finally MC manages to convince Diluc to let them help out at the bar. They only thing they could do was talk to customers and make them want to come back.
Then Venti comes in and freezes when seeing MC's eyes.
MC tensed but kept talking to people. Diluc noticed of course and confronted MC about and they revealed that Venti just reminded of someone who hated their eyes. Diluc then talks to Venti and MC doesn't know what's said but Venti later talks to MC, apologizing and saying they're always welcome. But later, Venti confronts MC in private and MC reveals they know he's Barbatos and that he helped destroy Khaenri'ah. Venti says again they they're free to stay in his nation.
MC and Venti become friends and many people compliment their eyes, which makes them confused and embarrassed. Eventually, after spending about a year with Kaeya and Diluc, the two sit them down again and ask if they want to permanently reside with Diluc and even, maybe, just perhaps be adopted?
MC thinks about it for a moments before nodding. Diluc adopts them, officially being their 'dad' but really just takes a role of an older brother. Kaeya is also like an older brother and MC shares some festivals, clearly Khaenrian ones, that their village did.
MC has two older brothers who care for them deeply and although they could NEVER replace Hector or Enyo, they could be two new siblings. Sometimes MC still wakes up expecting to be back at the village. Sometimes they still expect this to all be a trick or for it to be ripped away again. But Diluc and Kaeya always comfort them, always reaffirming that this was real, it wasn't a trick, and it wouldn't be ripped away.
Whenever MC has nightmares (often), whoever was closest would comfort them and sometimes both would!
In fact, MC being in their lives has just made the two finally fix (though not ALL the way, but mostly) their bond!
Then canon comes around a few months after the adoption and Dvalin is getting mad, corrupted, and causing terror within the hearts of everyone.
Aether then appears and MC is contemplating on helping them or staying out of it.
Eventually they make up there mind and decide to help Aether.
But first they need to figure out how to get away from Diluc and Kaeya (the two were VERY PROTECTIVE) so they could help the traveler.
(This is so long… I'm so sorry! In future things I'll split this so Rerir and Capitano/Thrain's version of each route is separated so A.C and B.C are together and A.R and B.R are grouped together)

...👀
Holy. Shit. That... thats a LOT to unpack. Holy moly- 😧
I love it, but these aren't just ideas anymore, you literally wrote the first chapters to your own story(s)!
I can't even pick out a favorite cause I like ALL of the routes!
But really, poor, poor MC... thia kid can't catch a break! They need some fluff, badly! 😭
