Book 107 of 2021. "She was smart enough to want more but tired enough to accept the way things were." ♀️♀️♀️♀️♀️♀️♀️♀️ "For difficult women, who should be celebrated for their very nature." I think Difficult Woman is often a misnomer for a vocal woman, a woman who doesn't make herself small, a woman who knows her worth, a woman you can't put in a box...a woman who can't be tamed or broken or molded into society's idea of womanhood. A real woman- imperfect, flawed and faceted. Reading #RoxaneGay isn't always easy. Her books often are quite hard to read. Not because they aren't good. God no, they are quite brilliant. They are just abrasive, harsh, real...too real, visceral and grating. And I mean this in a good way. This is my third foray into her writing and this book was powerful, messy, sad, gritty, human and disturbing and good. I will recommend reading it with breaks, and not read it in one go. You will need some time out to just process, catch your breath and just be. TW: Violence, Abuse and Sexual Assault.
