So my roommate got me a thing...
It’s a Once a Day: Imagine Your OTP Calendar and it’s amazing. I love it so much I’ve decided to try and add each day to my taiyama blog to continue to add content and stay connected with the fandom <3. I just got it, so I’m starting with today’s date:
January 12th, 2021 - Imagine your OTP can time travel
This is such an interesting prompt because the more I think about it the more it highlights the differences between Taichi and Yamato. I really think Yamato would want to go forward in time while I think Taichi would want to go backward.
I don’t think Taichi dwells too much on the past, he’s pretty focused on the present, but I could definitely see him wanting to experience past events in-person. He would love to go to that one football match when his favorite player scored that winning goal. Or wow wouldn’t it be neat to meet an actual knight or gladiator! And maybe he could research the most romantic places in history and take Yamato.... Oh yea, Taichi would be all about the past. He’d be open to visiting the future, but I think his own future stresses him out. So after trying out a hoverboard and a lightsaber he’d be ready to go home.
Yamato on the other hand would love the future. He wants to be an astronaut so our boy is at least a bit of a sci-fi nerd. And he’d want answers to all of the big questions so he can prepare himself and his loved ones for whatever is on the horizon. And don’t get me started on hoverbikes - even Taichi gets excited when Yamato challenges him to a race. I can just picture Yamato wandering the streets, listening to the music, observing the fashion, just melting into the background and taking in a time period he may never see otherwise. Sure the past is fine, but there’s no mystery - he can read about it - so the future is filled with excitement and discovery.
But knowing these two, they would absolutely run into dangerous situations on the regular. And the funniest thing is that I can picture Yamato getting them into trouble in the past and Taichi getting them into trouble in the future. Yamato just wouldn’t be able to tolerate the culture of the past and would constantly be at odds with anyone they talked to, meanwhile Taichi would have the mindset that ‘none of this matters’ in the future because, Yamato, it’s the future, it’s not going to impact us.
So yea, basically I’m relieved these two can’t time travel but it would make for some fun Dr. Who style shenanigans!

Yamato: I thought marriage was about love and trust. But you have betrayed me.
Taichi: ...I woke up early to go to the market.
Yamato: You abandoned me!
Taichi: You don't get enough sleep and I didn't want to wake you.
Yamato: But I did wake up! By myself! No husband! No kisses! No cuddles!
Taichi: Yama...
