Major spoilers for Digimon Beatbreak. Don't look here, if you don't want to.

Final form of Gekkomon is Atratusmon, based off "Atratus" secondary name of various snakes, and a subspecies of Iberian wall lizard.

"Atratus" means "blackened", or "darkened", or "clothed in dark clothes for mourning" in Latin.

One of its special attacks is called "Eclipse Impact", which is the attack that inspired this specific DUAL card.

It is still Data-Type, so this isn't a Dark Evolution.

Its overall design, and snake allusion probably references Apep/Apophis, the sun-eating snake from Egyptian mythology, so this is meant to be an antithesis of Taichi's War Greymon, and Masaru's Shine Greymon. This seems to be reinforced with the fact that it has a mace, and not a sword.

Its overall design is similar to McFarlane designs of Spawn, and Venom, though the Grim Reaper hood, and the purple Tomoro e-Pulse probably alludes to Gwenom (Gekkomon is voiced by Megumi Han), and probably Sora, and Astral's dark forms (Miyu Iruno voices both, and Tomoro).

This is the last card for Start Deck Digimon Beatbreak, so this will be the last major reveal for a while. Wait for the next Digimon Reference Book update, I guess.

This major update is probably a compensation for the recent lack of a Reference Book update.

Have you ever wondered how Digimon Frontier might have gone if the Spirits of Steel, Wood, and Earth had been bequeathed to Ophanimon, the Spirits of Water and Darkness had been bequeathed to Seraphimon, the Spirits of Flame, Light, Ice, Wind, and Thunder had been bequeathed to Cherubimon, and the protagonists had been Katsuharu, Teppei, Chiaki, Teruo, and Koichi (with Koji joining later)? Mind if I send each episode to your inbox so you can say how you think they'd go in that scenario?

Nah, you don't need to send me each episode, I'm not a professional fanfic writer, so I wouldn't bother with a full re-write.

For your specific questions:

**Ofanimon having Steel/Wood/Earth would mean those would get Transcendent Forms, and by proxy Susanoomon would initially be three-part combination.

***Steel would probably be based off Ein Soph like Timelords in 5D's, Wood would probably based off Chinese Wood Dragons in Chinese alchemy, Earth would probably based off Regigigas's origin Oumitsuni, or Surtr to keep Grottomon's lore European.

****This also would mean Junpei would be the third primary member, so I guess we would be closer to Hunters.

**Seraphimon having Water, and Darkness would imply Izumi would be Tomoki would be Darkness, so we wouldn't be able to do the Leomon reference. Or Koichi would be part of the team, so the conflict would be with Tomoki, which would be very funny, considering Tomoki is a game genius.

**Cherubimon having the spirits of the canon main cast would mean their final forms wouldn't be showcased, except maybe Fire, assuming we give that to the twist antagonist turned protagonist cast member.

***Canonically Spirit Forms don't change except Darkness, so the Forms would be the same, but used for antagonistic purposes. Though I suppose one can be more clever with designs, with Fire being corrupted to look like a Dark Agnimon, similar to Agumon (Black), Chackmon being closer to Hyougamon etc. Frontier era didn't have a lot of Digimon to reference off, so being closer to original era's feeling would be bit difficult.

**For the protagonist cast being switched off with the side team, well, the initial change would be that Koichi's demand to find Koji would be in the immediate conflict with the rest of the cast, and taking Koji back would be more difficult since he has no memories of Koichi. So Koji's arc would have been longer.

***In that same manner, if the canon cast became the stranded kids, Katsuharu, and Teppei trying to convince Tomoki would be more difficult than the other way around, since Tomoki is younger, and wouldn't have been forced to take the initiative. So the two episode arc in the canon would probably a 5 episode mini-arc in the Royal Knights episodes.

***In a similar vein, if Koji became the Evil Warrior of Light, you could take the more Knights Templar route with the Warriors of Evil, with a significant amount of the plot being focused on historical pressures Bestial Digimon went through, and Koji sympathising with them.

****This also would probably mean Warriors of Evil would default to Beast Forms rather than Human Forms.

This isn't exactly an idea that would make Frontier better necessarily (most of Frontier's issues are external to the Series), but a rather slight change like this makes the situation more interesting.

Since we are at Mother D-Reaper, let's discuss the Agents instead.

Each of the Agents have extensive notes by Konaka in his website, though these are more easily found in various Wikis, particularly the Fandom Wiki. In theory, each of the D-Reapers are supposed to use pseudo-mechanical parts, as opposed to pseudo-biological parts of Digimon in Tamers timeline. Konaka intended each of the Agents to be actually composed of the junk mechanics, but that is obviously not true in the show proper. They instead imitate machines, though the giant pink one uses the camera it absorbed.

Each of the Agents are connected to the core through network cables, except the Juri one, which Curly compares to umblical cords. The obvious NGE references aside, this is very clearly supposed to be as a result of D-Reaper's incomplete understanding of humanity, though Konaka's notes suggest this is mostly due to the program's desire to delete anything that is not itself, so it does not trust any part of it becoming an independent being.

Konaka's notes state each of the Agents are supposed to look like video games enemies, and their progression is supposed to be like the gradual progression of difficulty with video games. This is reinforced with the fact that Konaka's notes give each Agent analogous Levels to Digimon.

That said, this again likely has less to do with symbolism, and more to do Konaka covering for himself, since the desire to make them like video game enemies was likely so they could appear Bandai's tie-in games of the era. And so could Ryo be useful as an extra muscle, of course.

However, since the lore of D-Reaper is largely Konaka's brainchild, designs are largely Toei animators' designs IIRC, and this concept is only important in Tamers lore, don't expect these to show up in Digimon Reference Book, since they have the vague legal issues of V-Tamer Digimon, and other Digimon designs made by artists external to Bandai (similar issue exists with their spiritual successors, the Eaters from Cyber Sleuth games). Like those cases, the rights will unambigiously return to Bandai when those creators are dead, and of course, Bandai will jump that bandwagon like usual when that happens.

Today's Digimon Reference Book update is Taowumon, last of the Great Perils.

This leaves the alternative Renamon line from the Shambala lore as the last remaining Shambala Digimon.

Digimon Beatbreak Episode 34.

Today has no major TCG reveals, just two more Shambala cards.

This episode is called "Behind the Mask", but actual Kanji meaning is "Backside of the Mask", which as everyone knows, is still a mask, excellent double meaning.

Oblivimon is the canonical Perfect of Espimon, originating from Digimon Liberator.

Mitsutama means Three Eggs, though I don't know if the specific Kanji refers to that. It is another Egg pun for World Union associated structures.

As discussed in the previous episode preview, Yao here is a pastiche of Hiro's dad from Ghost Game, having a similar design, who was also associated with Espimon in Ghost Game.

This episode first aired on June 7, 2026, June 6 being Asuka's birthday.

The mysterious lady in the ED3 is revealed to be "Miharu"s sister, and "Miharu" tries to make Tomoro join her cult, but Kyo intervenes.

Kawarazaki intentionally releases Otsuki, Yao's accomplice that knifed Reina, to fetch the rest of GIFT, with him as the tracker. "Otsuki" means "great moon", which alludes to him being the "reflection" of GIFT.

Kawarazaki calls "Miharu" a "streamer".

Gekkomon wonders if the "Miharu"s brief romantic connection with Tomoro caused him to worry about her. (Tomoro is implied to subsconsciously realise GIFT's streamer is "Miharu", but doesn't consciously internalise it yet.)

Otsuki is cold hearted by "Miharu"s second hand man, and "Miharu" gives Tomoro a call, from Otsuki's Sapotama.

Despite others realising "Miharu" is GIFT, Tomoro runs to her to give her a chance.

"Miharu" reveals the truth to Tomoro, and goes full KH2 Xemnas in her monologue.

"Miharu"s monologue is probably one of the best moments in this franchise so far, you should watch this episode just for this bit.

Brilliant Thorn ends the romantic meetup, destroying the gayest heterosexual scene with most heteronormative lesbian entrance.

Brilliant Thorn implies Rose's big plan is to use the recently established connection between Tomoro, and "Miharu" (no doubt they were aware of, they are queer enough to smell the romance) to ensure disestablishment of Glowing Dawn by associating them with GIFT's terrorism.

Tomoro goes Batman with his Catwoman, and goes on to fight against Brilliant Thorn, but Rose finally enters, so does Reina.

Tomoro says they need to protect Reina, Reina begrudgingly accepts.

Rose is disappointed with Reina's poor performance (so am I), but Kyo comes in for the save.

"Miharu"s second hand man comes in, using a whirlpool effect. It is unclear what Digimon attack this was, but it is not Mephismon.

Rose warns Kyo about GIFT, but Kyo doesn't care.

In a later scene, Reina leaves.

"Miharu"s second hand man's name is Kishiwada. Kishiwada warns "Miharu" about Tomoro as a good adoptive father, but "Miharu" already made a connection with Tomoro that remains.

Next episode preview features the next GIFT member with another Gammamon evolution, this time Bombermon, which I suspected would appear soon.

Next episode will focus on Reina, so it seems Pristimon's evolution is "finally" coming.

This episode was jampacked, and massively changed the status quo of the arc.

Introduction of the Batman-Catwoman dynamic between Tomoro, and "Miharu" also helps to ensure she will be relevant beyond this arc, unless there is a redemption through sacrifice.

After Pristimon's evolution, most likely the next two episode will be Tomoro's friends, and Haruko's return, until the final fight with Kishiwada, and "Miharu".

My initial assumption for Atratusmon's design was that Kyo would be killed off post Habakirimon's debut, but the Moon Knight inspiration seems to have been for the current Tomoro-"Miharu" dynamic.
