Sharing some process steps from this DBusiness cover illustration
Am I working on things? Turns out I am!
I’m deciding to do digital color studies for Aequis customs this round, mostly for ease of editing. The drawback is then I have to later match watercolor/colored pencil/trad media to digital color. Which can be tricky. Haven’t botched one yet, though!
Also! I realize I hadn’t made a post on this, but Arctic types now come with summer and winter plumage variants. Mostly I was thinking of ptarmigans: winter plumage is heavier on white, with the potential for main coloration to be lighter (doesn’t have to be!)
Designs belong to their respective owners, Aequis species belong to me. If you’re interested in getting a custom design, I do technically have one slot open.
I have been picking at this off and on while attempting to rest my back. I'm sure there were plenty of better uses for my time, of course.
Who cares? Color and lighting practice is always good, no matter what the subject. I'll never learn anything if I don't attempt. Even so, I still can't believe how far I am behind some people when it comes to my understanding of light and color. I do my research, maybe more than some, but I feel I'm slow to properly apply the knowledge to my work. Of course, it always takes time, but I can be impatient.
That said, if you have critiques for me, that would be fantastic. My eyes can't tell what's going on here anymore, so I will leave it be for now and pick around on commission sketches instead.
(His markings seem to have disappeared. I will have to remedy that later.)
