Digital Voice.
My Tube Guru sent me a message about several AD/DA converters he has had experience with. This was a follow up to my post a short time ago. These machines are of excellent quality, but each produce different digital files from the same input. Interpretation of that is they will sound different from each other even if they are remarkably precise.
I use the word precise deliberately there.
The difference between perfection and what these devices do may be very small. But the primitive human sound interface can detect and differentiate them.
There is no perfect.
How many bits you have or how many megahertz the sample is done at is about resolution, but it is all still dots on a screen to use a visual analogy.
I like to think about DSD bitstreams that use what is called one bit by marketing, but is properly delta/sigma recording. The device outputs only one bit which is either a 1 or a 0. The thing it is measuring is the signal increasing or decreasing compared to the last measurement. If it is more it is a 1. If it is less it is a 0. A steady voltage would be a series of alternating 1s and 0s (101010101010101010). That would play as a extremely high frequency squeal at the sampling rate, but that is filtered out. What is left looks like a steady signal, but it is not.
Delta/Sigma is about the best method as it is flexible and can generate lots of highly resolved data. It is a workable model of the sound if we are talking about sound. But it aint the sound.
The things that do all this stuff are chips made in various factories around the world. They are made for many things, and some work better than others for signal processing. High End Audio is just one thing they are used for. Another is missile guidance systems.
Sometimes I overthink stuff, but that is the curse of being an engineer. (not an electrical engineer mind you)
Am I going to push this around to claim analog is better? Analog is not perfect. Every step in the chain from performer to recording to your system and into your ears, is flawed. How flawed is the subject of debate. It is ironic that people who really understand how this stuff works usually step back and not get too bothered by the shit flying back and forth.
just enjoy the music.
Beethoven's 9th.
Happy 200 years since the work's debut. Though I missed the anniversary by a couple weeks. I am listening to a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic celebrating 200 years of the this work.
It is on Apple Classical Music stream. It sounds really nice. It is a live recording with real room sound. Real ambience. Between movements the audience is audible doing the coughing and shifting in the seats thing. The clarity and timbre of the instruments is fine. I am sure it was recorded digitally and of course the stream is digital, but sometimes it all works.
I hear one of the worlds top orchestras playing across the room from me. It is a good convincing illusion. That is what all this gear is for after all. I know this work very well. I first heard it in the early 1970s. My dad bought me the Beethoven Bicentennial issue of DG disks. Most of the symphonies were Von Karajan and the Berlin and even if the pressings were USA, the music was solid. The set came with a thick book with LvBs biography and almost too much detail. Of course this was before they proved he went deaf from lead poisoning. He liked his wine and it was common to adulterate it with lead compounds to enhance sweetness.
Right now we are getting to the end of the Third Movement. So pretty and placid. Lovely French horns and pizzicato strings. Almost like a lullaby. Just you wait old Ludwig has something for you.
The fourth movement is starting ,big fanfare, double basses, drums all the usual stuff. I am looking forward to the chorus. The ARC does a chorus really well. Here comes that famous theme... I gotta just let it run..
I can hear each soloist perfectly and the chorus is brilliant. Kudos to the recording engineer. I wonder how many mikes he used. The chorus sounds bigger than the orchestra. Its what the work deserves. Impressive!
It would have been nice to be there, but this is a fine alternative. I do hear some issues maybe the digital thing, or the limits of 60 Watts of amplifier power, but that is nit picking. Enjoy the music, that is what it is for.
Kudos and Bravo LvB!
Happy Friday~! Spend a little bit of your afternoon with me~! :D Imma be drawing the usual + fanart of...the usual 🤣 https://www.twitch.tv/operationugawts https://www.picarto.tv/operationugawts

Anyone have experience with installing a converter box in a dorm room?
It's connected right, but it's not finding ANY channels. "No signal."

Warframe a Launch Title for The PS4
Warframe the co-op multiplayer third-person shooter (free-to-play) will come out as a PS4 launch title. The game will remain free-to-play with microtransaction as the PC version.
Digital Streams the developers of Warframe mentioned that the game will use all the functions of the Dualshock 4 including the touchpad and the Creative Director Steve Sinclair was commented that was "attractive" work with Sony because the developers continue to have control rights to their games.
Story: Players control a member of the Tenno, ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of cryosleep to find themselves in a war with the Grineer, a race of militarized humans, and the Corpus. The Tenno use advanced armor with unique properties, called Warframes in the war against the Grineer and Corpus
Factions:
Tenno
Preserved in cryopods for centuries, the Tenno awaken to a new war, fighting and resisting the Grineer Empire’s stranglehold on the solar system.
Grineer
The Grineer are a decaying race of militarized humans motivated by fear and envy. They have targeted the Tenno for extinction.
Corpus
The Corpus control all traded goods. The reclusive Corpus seek lost Orokin technology to build their own weapons of war to combat the Tenno and if necessary, the Grineer.
Warframes:
VAUBAN
The highly tactical VAUBAN uses his powers to create deadly traps that can zap, imprison and dimensionally crush enemies.
BANSHEE
Using sonic attacks and acoustic target detection, BANSHEE is well suited for stealth gameplay and is capable of filling both attack, and support roles.
SARYN
SARYN's venomous attacks are horrifyingly effective against organic and synthetic enemies, and her ability to "shed" her skin makes her very elusive.
Trinity
Trinity is great for players who prefer a supportive role. Warframes with healing technologies are rare making Trinity a great equalizer when the odds are stacked against the Tenno.
Volt
Volt can create and harness electrical elements. This is a high-damage Warframe perfect for players who want a potent alternative to gun-play.
Ash
Ash is great for players looking for a more stealthy approach to combat. Lethal abilities are complemented by powers of distraction.
Nyx
Mind control and psychic attacks make Nyx a very dangerous foe. Her ability to reach into enemy consciousness and manipulate their behavior can turn the tide of any battle.
Ember
Ember is a nightmare for light-armored targets. Ember can super-heat the air which opens up surprising crowd-control possibilities.
Frost
By channeling moisture and vapor in the surrounding environment, Frost creates formidable defenses and lethal attacks from sub zero conditions.
Excalibur
The perfect training Warframe: the Excalibur suit allows players to explore the power of Warframes with a balanced set of capabilities.
Mag
With full command of surrounding magnetic energy, Mag is an expert at enemy manipulation. She is a perfect choice for players that want to deal heavy damage in unconventional ways.
Rhino
Rhino is the heaviest of all the Warframes. His strength enables him to combine a mix of devestating offensive attacks with formidable defensive powers.
Loki
Desired by advanced players, Loki offers a variety of reconfiguring abilities. The abnormality of Loki's powers allows players to manipulate the battlefield.
