“My plan to enjoy a little R&R on an island in the Pacific Northwest turned into anything but a relaxing vacation when someone snuck abroad the boat that belonged to the person I was staying with and trashed it.

The boat’s owner Katie Firestone (a marine biologist who ran a small whale watching business), thought the attack may’ve had something to do with the lone killer what that had suddenly shown up in the harbor and was causing big problems for the locals.

I couldn’t resist investigating, and soon discovered that a sea monster was just one of the things that made the seemingly sleepy little town of Snake Horse Harbor a very perilous place to visit.”

“I knew it wasn’t going to be easy figuring out why accidents kept happening at the Icicle Creek Lodge. 

But after discovering firsthand how treacherous winter can be when you’re deep in the backcountry of the Canadian Rockies, I began to think I was in way over my head. Whether I was snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or even ice-fishing, danger seemed to be everywhere - thin ice, avalanches, hypothermia, even a figure in black who could throw ice balls with deadly accuracy.

And on top of all that, a strange white wolf was prowling outside the Lodge, howling in a way that was bone-chilling, which actually turned out to be a good thing, because finding out why ended up saving my life.”

“I was called into Waverly Academy to investigate a sinister series of threats coming from someone identified only as the Black Cat.

When I arrived it was clear that this Black Cat person wasn’t fooling around. Students who received threatening notes from the Black Cat were starting to disappear, and is was going to be up to me to find out why without vanishing myself.

The prestigious prep school had suddenly become a hotbed of suspicion, sabotage, gossip, and danger. It took everything I had to survive break in one piece.”

“Go to France to work as an assistant to a famous fashion designer named Minette - sounds like a dream assignment, right?

The catch was, I was actually working undercover, trying to figure out why Minette had begun acting so strangely - firing people, throwing temper tantrums and (strangest of all) wearing a full face mask, even at work.

My investigation took me into some of the busy parks and bright cafes of Paris, as well as into the underworld of sewers and catacombs deep beneath the streets.

But most intriguing of all was an old moulin, or windmill, still churning with secrets which ultimately threatened to turn my trip to the City of Lights into a permanent stay in a room of doom.”

“I headed to Wickford Castle in Wisconsin hoping to do a little skiing, but a blizzard shut me and a handful of other in and kept everyone else out. After the mysterious vandalism of the castle’s library, I soon learned that Wickford was built around a huge turreted tower which had been removed decades earlier from an ancient castle in France and transported, piece by piece to the U.S.

When I found my way into the old tower things got dicey, and it was all I could do to avoid a fate as unpleasant as the one that befell the tower’s original inhabitant, Marie Antoinette.”
