Justice for #DijonKizzee, biking while Black, & failed police reforms. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "On 8/31, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies murdered Dijon Kizzee, a 29 yr old Black man, in South LA. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He was reportedly stopped for violating vehicle codes while riding his bike. He was reportedly shot as he ran from cops when they began to approach him." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Police traffic enforcement is a cycling issue. Cycling while Black carries a heightened risk of being stopped, cited, frisked, and arrested. Black cyclists are disproportionately stopped for suspicion and probable cause. Black cyclists are searched and arrested more frequently. More cyclists are stopped in Black neighborhoods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In addition, available public data reported by the CDC shows top reasons of visits to the ER are due to fatal injuries BY law enforcement TO civilians, which have been on the rise since 2001. - Charlie Kurzman "Who Polices the Police" via @andfee. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "The day that Dijon Kizzee was murdered was also the last day of California’s legislative session. Lawmakers failed to pass SB 731 and other police reforms because “the clock ran out” to debate & pass police reform bills that sought to reduce the reach & power of this country's lethal & inhumane police & prison system." - @andfee. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Police reform and abolition are issues we should be further discussing in cycling. Creating ways to protect each other, assist each other without police are important for us to reimagine a world were cops aren't hurting us for the color of our skin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please visit @blmlosangeles and @docmellymel for updates on justice for Dijon Kizzee. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Images: 1 @naturallyclarke 2-5 @andfee #defundthepolice #abolishthepolice #justiceforedijonkizzee #blacklivesmatter #dijonkizzee #bikingwhileblack #bikes #cycling https://www.instagram.com/p/CEuIXjcl9BW/?utm_medium=tumblr
