- blasian; suggestion was mixed mom + black dad?

- probably raised in the same place luxord's from. because same accent, and it's a rare fucking accent in KH

- probably transfem! or transmasc but kept a fem name!

I want to know more about Dilan's crush on Apprentice Nort. Is Apprentice Xehanort the one who broke his heart?

YES this is my secret favorite pet headcanon lmao. I love the idea that yes, Apprentice Xehanort was the one to break Dilan's heart, which is part of why Xaldin is Like That. Considering Xaldin is apparently very high in rank, below Xigbar but above Vexen, Lexaeus, and Zexion, and shown in more scenes with Xemnas than the other members, I like to imagine Dilan as the most gung-ho apprentice when it came to supporting Apprentice Xehanort (aside from Braig of course). My hc is that Dilan was the one to encourage the other apprentices to trust Xehanort and turn deeper into darkness, and he remains very loyal to Xemnas as Xaldin.

Because of Xaldin's obvious hangups about love, too, though, I think the general fan consensus is that someone broke his heart, and I love the idea that it was actually Xehanort himself. Dilan fell in love with him, devoted everything to him, but Xehanort never returned his affections. Maybe he catches a glimpse of him messing around with Braig (Braig???) or something after never seeming to notice Dilan's gestures, and is just crushed by the lack of reciprocation. Still, he stays loyal, hoping something might change, and is the only member genuinely relieved to have his heart literally ripped out instead of metaphorically, this time.

Between being super sick for almost 2 weeks, and decision paralysis on what to work on when I did have energy, I’ve chipped away at least a tiny bit on background work for Dilan/Xaldin.

Some of the lore may or may not make into the various Dilan/Xaldin focused fics, but I realized I wanted to have consistent details to weave through them since they’re all in the same canon-compliant universe.

I do not view canon appearance Dilan as white, and since the official position is the “aracial/raceless” shtick 😒 , he’s biracial/mixed-black as far as I’m concerned.

All fan representations of Dilan/Xaldin as fully black have a special place in my heart and full support 💜

Anyways, one of the big things to start with was getting an idea of his childhood and relation to his parents. This meme, and my modifications, quickly gets to a lot of the heart of that.

Radiant Garden Fam headcanons:

- Aeleus was the one who found Ienzo after his parents were killed by Unversed

- Ienzo was closest with Ansem and Even then being his primary caretakers, while he saw Aeleus and Braig as uncles and Dilan too, but Dilan was the most distant of them from Ienzo

- Ansem and Even are in a QPR, Aeleus and Dilan are dating (I do also like Aeleus x Even and might draw them at some point but these are my main ships)

- Braig makes jokes about being the fifth wheel of the group (until Xehanort comes along)

- Braig and Dilan are half-brothers(credit to xiiiwayfinders for that one idk if they got that headcanon from someone else, but I saw it on their blog first)

- Braig (pre-Luxu) became a guard as a late teen after Dilan (already a guard) suggested it when Braig said he didn’t know what to do with his life

- Ienzo has selective mutism (again credit to xiiiwayfinders) and autism

- Ansem and Even tried to find ways for Ienzo to make friends with kids his age, but between loosing his parents and already not being like most kids Ienzo was never able to get along with his peers

- Luxu tends to use vessels of people down on their luck or seeing little to no point in life anymore, Braig was about to cross a point he couldn’t come back from when Luxu stopped him and promised to make all the pain go away

- When Xehanort joined Luxu had never expected Xehanort to be so different from both Terra and the old coot and end up as someone completely new. It made him intrigued to meet this new combination of people he used to know and eventually Luxu found himself in love

- Ienzo was the first to find out about Xehanort’s experiments (not including Braig)

- The reason Xaldin is so bitter about love is because of the distance that grew between him and Lexeaus after loosing their hearts, the two barely talked or did anything together both believing it was what the other wanted which festered resentment between the two that they didn’t resolve until after their hearts were back

- A small part of the reason Vexen agreed to be apart of the real organization was because he was scared to look Ienzo in the eye again after causing him so much hurt
