Dillon Fence - 'Queen of the In-Between'
One of my favorites.
If you put members of:
The Popes
Satellite Boyfriend
Dillon Fence
together in a band, you'd probably end up with Cheryl Parker's 116th Dream, a collective making its live debut August 9 at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill as part of the Be Loud Sophie Foundation benefit. Tickets available wherever you buy your Cradle tickets.
Do you know what song they're rehearsing?
Song of the Day: Hobex - Let Me Live. Speaking of cool basslines, I'm in NC for the holidays, so let's listen to an NC band. Led by Greg Humphreys, Dillon Fence was a "college pop/rock" early '90s band in the vein of The Connells and Toad the Wet Sprocket. When they broke up, Greg got this funky outfit together, and this track is off their debut EP. Oh, and in 2007, I was lucky enough to have them play at my wedding.
RIYL Dillon Fence, Isaac Hayes, Beastie Boys' instrumentals
Dillon Fence. I learned a lot about playing the guitar in two weeks on tour with these guys, and made some friends.
Whooo hooooo hooooo. N.Carolina memory lane.
Greg Humphreys - Natural Child
This guy has been around for a long time, you can know him through his bands Dillon Fence and Hobex and he's a very gifted singer/songwriter and musician. His album Trunk Songs has been on heavy rotation at my place ever since it came out, it's one of those rare albums that never bore you and gets you in a certain mood...love playing that one over and over. This track, Natural Child, is of that album. Check it out, it's available on iTunes. Also, check out Greg's site for more info and tour dates. He'll be playing mostly in NC during the next couple of weeks, but keep your eyes out for this guy, it's worth it!
