“Well, I guess it’s all laid out in Black and White.”
I’m staving off boredom again, trying not to repeat any covers from this post
How many of these albums can you name? One is a 12″ single and another may or may not be a bootleg...answers below

The Halloween vinyl post had me inspired to do more. This one is called “No Talking, Just Heads”
If I’m missing a really good one, let me know. (note this is 12″ vinyl only)
Top row, left to right:
I’m not saying I was bored today, but I did put together this picture of Halloween-themed vinyl.
From l-to-r, top row:
Alice in Chains - Over Now
After 1,357 “song of the day” posts across two blogs (and one listener - Hi Mom!), I’m taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on cheese.
From 1995′s self-titled album
RIYL Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Mad Season
Brad - Raise Love
From 1993′s Shame, this is the side project of Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard. Spoiler alert - it sounds nothing like Pearl Jam.
RIYL Mother Love Bone, Satchel, The Afghan Whigs
or watch on YouTube
Throwing Muses - Snakeface
From another criminally underrated masterpiece, 1995′s University. I’ve sung its praises before, but listening to it today reminded me of its greatness.
RIYL Pixies, PJ Harvey, Yo La Tengo
The dB’s - We Were Happy There
From 1982′s Repercussion. I’ve said it before, but these guys deserve their own cult - their first two albums are power-pop masterpieces and remain criminally underrated.
RIYL early R.E.M., The Feelies, The Bongos
Fishbone - Pouring Rain
From 1988′s Truth and Soul. It is amazing to me that the band that wrote a song as beautiful as this (and this) is also responsible for a song in which the chorus is “may your dog’s colon be familiar with the warmth of your breath.” But with Fishbone you’ve got to take the bad with the good, and the good (this album, The Reality of My Surroundings) is so damn good.
RIYL James Brown, Pharrell Williams, Curtis Mayfield
Ty Segall - And, Goodnight
This 12-minute jam closes out 2018′s Freedom’s Goblin, and despite the song title, it’s actually a cover of his own “Sleeper.”
RIYL Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Thee Oh Sees, The Grateful Dead
Califone - The Orchids
From 2006′s Roots and Crowns. Broke this LP out for the first time in a while, and damn if it’s not as good as the best of Red Red Meat. And damn if I wasn’t surprised to find out just now that this song is a cover.
RIYL Sun Kil Moon, Grizzly Bear, Will Oldham
Ryley Walker - Captain
From 2018′s The Lillywhite Sessions, a collection of covers from an unreleased Dave Matthews Band album. I’ve been a RW fan for a few years, and although I have a soft spot for DMB, I wasn’t so sure about this (you can read more about it here). But damn if it isn’t really good, and I think this song has the best singing of any Walker song I’ve ever heard.
RIYL Dave Matthews Band (natch), Anna St. Louis, Wilco
Ramones - Commando
From 1977′s Leave Home. I used to get by on a Ramones compilation, but then I bought the first four albums (LH is #2) and they are all so damn good.
RIYL Buzzcocks, X, Misfits
The Zombies - The Way I Feel Inside
From 1965′s Begin Here. Pretty good advice, but I’d probably start with Odessey and Oracle.
RIYL The Beach Boys, Belle & Sebastian, Elliott Smith
Guided by Voices - Paper Girl
From 1989’s Self-Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia (aka disc 3 of Box)
RIYL Neutral Milk Hotel, Rogue Wave, Sebadoh
Boubacar Traoré - Solo de Kar Kar
From 1999′s Maciré
RIYL Ali Farka Touré, William Tyler, early Bob Dylan
Hand Habits - Placeholder
From the recently released LP, also called Placeholder. Coincidence?
RIYL Angel Olsen, Molly Burch, Kevin Morby
Massive Attack - Radiation Ruling the Nation
Feeling kind of basic today. From 1995′s No Protection, a remix record of 1994′s Protection.
RIYL Air, Björk, DJ Shadow
