take your laptop off the bed/pillow/your lap if it’s on it and put it on a desk. the cpu’s trying to keep up with the scrolling, it’s heating up, the fan’s trying to cool it down and if it’s blocked it’ll buzz. lift it up for a few seconds too
you are a smart person wow
it was already on a desk, so I lifted it up, it seems to have stopped now

i mean saying “oh she’s so queer” could be taken as meaning lgbt-queer but saying “she had a queer feeling that they were being watched” doesn’t mean she’s having gay feelings about being watched ya feel me
right ok, I hoped so
*is relieved*
thanks
dimitripetrenko answered your question: Question:
make sure the context is clear enough, but of course you can
but if I’m writing and a character uses it as an adjective? I can’t just put in brackets “I don’t mean gay, by the way”
Question:
are we still allowed to use the word "queer" with it's old meaning?
queer |kwi(ə)r| adjective
strange; odd: she had a queer feeling that they were being watched.
I grew up on Enid Blyton and I still use it in my head with that meaning. What do you (including [but not limited to] people I'm tagging because they're more in touch with that sort of thing than I am) think?
dimitripetrenko replied to your post “trying to sort out my departmental timetables for comm is ridiculous i...”
oh my god same the uom/jc websites are so fucking roundabout it's ridiculous and i at least wish it had half the info it's supposed to (like you'd expect there to be a list of staff but nOOOOO (talkin jc bit, idk about uom))
ugh no the websites are practically the same and they're freaking ridiculous and poorly updated but at least the staff at jc are super helpful when you need something, literally the only answer i got from the secretaries when i went to the faculty office was 'check the website' .-. like i would even be there if what i needed was on the gosh darn website

Do you prefer going to the cinema or watching films at home Home. My favourite type of film is action/adventure, but I can’t stand how loud explosions are in cinemas. At home you can adjust the volume and rewind if you miss things.
What are 3 items you’d take to a desert island? The most powerful radio possible, to get help, a survival guide and food
What song is currently your favourite? Jeez. Happy Vibes by Steve Winwood, probably
Do you like poetry? Any favourites? Not really a poetry fan, but I love this one: 'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze; He turned away the good old horse that served him many days; He dressed himself in cycling clothes, resplendent to be seen; He hurried off to town and bought a shining new machine; And as he wheeled it through the door, with air of lordly pride, The grinning shop assistant said, "Excuse me, can you ride?" "See here, young man," said Mulga Bill, "from Walgett to the sea, From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh, there's none can ride like me. I'm good all round at everything as everybody knows, Although I'm not the one to talk - I hate a man that blows. But riding is my special gift, my chiefest, sole delight; Just ask a wild duck can it swim, a wildcat can it fight. There's nothing clothed in hair or hide, or built of flesh or steel, There's nothing walks or jumps, or runs, on axle, hoof, or wheel, But what I'll sit, while hide will hold and girths and straps are tight: I'll ride this here two-wheeled concern right straight away at sight." 'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that sought his own abode, That perched above Dead Man's Creek, beside the mountain road. He turned the cycle down the hill and mounted for the fray, But 'ere he'd gone a dozen yards it bolted clean away. It left the track, and through the trees, just like a silver steak, It whistled down the awful slope towards the Dead Man's Creek. It shaved a stump by half an inch, it dodged a big white-box: The very wallaroos in fright went scrambling up the rocks, The wombats hiding in their caves dug deeper underground, As Mulga Bill, as white as chalk, sat tight to every bound. It struck a stone and gave a spring that cleared a fallen tree, It raced beside a precipice as close as close could be; And then as Mulga Bill let out one last despairing shriek It made a leap of twenty feet into the Dean Man's Creek. 'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that slowly swam ashore: He said, "I've had some narrer shaves and lively rides before; I've rode a wild bull round a yard to win a five-pound bet, But this was the most awful ride that I've encountered yet. I'll give that two-wheeled outlaw best; it's shaken all my nerve To feel it whistle through the air and plunge and buck and swerve. It's safe at rest in Dead Man's Creek, we'll leave it lying still; A horse's back is good enough henceforth for Mulga Bill." Mulga Bill’s Bicycle by Banjo Patterson

Would you rather be a pirate or a ninja? (I’m sorry, I’m running out of questions.) Ninja, as pirate is illegal and I don’t fancy being on a boat 90% of the time

dimitripetrenko replied to your post “its funny how malta doesn’t even show up on the map on the euro coin...”
it seems that it only shows up on euro coins of 2008 and later. like thanks, thanks for only acknowledging us when we accepted your currency, (contrasted to how the UK is non-euro but is still on the coin)
the UK is one of the founding states of the EU tho so although its classist as fuck i understand the liberty they're given with certain membership privileges like not having to adopt the currency. but its pretty damn infuriating when we're treated as second rate for non valid reasons and made a mockery of us just because we're small. i remember how offended our first delegates were when one of them wanted to give a speech in maltese, just after the first maltese translators went up to brussels, and pretty much the majority of parliament complained about it. i'm sorry but they would have not dared had it been any other country wanting to give a speech in their native language
