random unimportant thoughts after watching bridgerton s1 + s2:

•eloise is cool and all but i have no interest in her little fling w the paper boy. i skip all the scenes. tbh i dont care for benedicts side projects either. like it’s cool but it doesnt move the story forward much so it’s boring to me. ig for eloise it did create drama w the lady whisteldown stuff but i didnt need to see so many eloise and paper boy scenes for that tbh.

•the boxer dude who opened the lame ass mens club pisses me off so bad. YOU used fraudulent money to open ur mens club now ur looking down on the featheringtons. always in somebody elses business and lookin all miserable like nigga get out the wayyyy mind ur businessss

•edwina literally looks like a perfect angel princess doll, face card of a woman men would go to war for …HOWEVER that crying face kills me lmao

•i love how in the bridgerton uni theres always a storyline break in the show for the two main characters to just fuck. just a smutty montage.

•now i know lady featherington isnt the best mother all the time but she loves her kids in her own way and but she’s one of my favorite characters. i’m a sucker for a strong female character who would do whatever she needs for her kids. like i just love to watch her. and i love how after she told mr featherington about her plan, you could see how stressed she was after, just shows how developed a character she is likeee ugh love to watch her on screen.

“Demi? Why is my publicist sending me an article called “Demi Lovato Wants To Beep Simon Cowell?” He enters her dressing room with his phone in his hand and she looks up from her chair at her assistant and security, nodding at them to give them some privacy. 

“Are you censoring it for my benefit or yours?” She bites her lip as she smiles. She knows of the article but hasn’t had a chance to look at it yet and to be honest, she was banking on him never seeing it. Then again, it’s kind of fun that he has.

He makes a face at her. “Would you like me to use my imagination on what word you used?” 

She smirks. “Please.”

He moves so he’s sitting on the edge of the vanity table in front of her. It’s been a while since she’s been close to him like this without other people around, things have changed in the time since auditions, in their personal lives and between them as a result. She feels the true energy between them like this, that hasn’t gone away and she doubts it will. 

“This wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when we talked about appearing closer as a group this season.” He winks and she can feel the heat of it low in her stomach.

“I could have said I wanted to fuck all of you.” She shrugs and he grins at first, then laughs wholeheartedly when she keeps his gaze locked insistently.

“Apparently when Paulina did an interview with them months ago they’d played fuck, marry, kill and she’d challenged me to do it too, so without thinking I said I’d kill Paulina for that alone,” she starts to explain but he reaches out for the edge of her shirt, fingering it absentmindedly and he smells of mints and it’s hard to focus.

“By that point I had kinda fucked up already, so I said I’d marry Kelly because it seemed like the right thing to say. I never mentioned your name or the third option. I guess they put two and two together.”

“Demi…” He drags out her name in the way she loves. It’s easy to blame it on not thinking but she loves playing with fire. Life gets so boring.

“What? You said you’d kiss me just last week!”

“That was an actual accident!”

She shrugs. “Well.” 

He leans in closer, his breath on her ear causing shivers. “I guess as long as no one knows how many times you’ve actually done that, we should be fine.”

could you expand more on how polin’s plotline of him teaching her the ropes of finding a suitor would differ from daphne/simon’s plotline in s1? i’d love to hear more about what you said earlier - how the 4 characters are all different from one another with different motivations.

Sure! I'm always up to talk about all things Bridgerton. As a shameless plug, I will direct you to some of the articles I've written about the topic because I adore Bridgerton and have worked incredibly hard on them. Bear with me; this will be a long post.

I first dove into the topic from Eloise's perspective and radiated outwards, so you can find that piece here.

Then, I wrote about how Season 2 handled Kate and Edwina's sisterhood and considered their differing approaches to marriage based on their desires and society's desires. You can find that here.

Most recently, beyond that Polin piece you referenced, I wrote about Daphne's arc in Season 2 and how her guidance of Anthony stems from her experiences in her relationship and in the Marriage Mart in Season 1. That's right here.

As for more specifics regarding your question, Daphne initially approached the Marriage Mart as the eldest Bridgerton daughter. That fact, paired with the one that Anthony hadn't married, the Bridgerton family's prospects relied on Daphne's future. Therefore, she needed to find a suitor to secure her future and that of her siblings and mother. That situation resulted in a relationship of circumstance with Simon that evolved into a love match.

Simon approached marriage with disdain because of his desire to end his family line with himself. His rightful hatred of his father rippled throughout his actions in the Marriage Mart, as he steered as clear of it as possible — until Daphne.

As far as the series goes, Colin is different from both. He has the luxury of being the third-born Bridgerton son. The pressure isn't entirely on his shoulders, hence why he can travel so often and can entertain his desires if he so chooses. Alternatively, we know Colin isn't opposed to marriage, whatever the circumstance. He was prepared to marry Marina. He's a hopeless romantic like his other siblings. But, it's evident that marriage isn't his main priority right now, but that will seemingly change in Season 3.

Penelope's motivations are detailed in that article. She wants a marriage of convenience that will give her the freedom she desires to maintain as Lady Whistledown. Unfortunately, Colin vowed that her husband's role would never be filled by him because he would never court her. 

So now, Colin will face feelings he's always been oblivious to or ignored while he teaches her what suitors want — realizing that she’s who he’s always wanted. That’s different than Simon making Daphne look more appealing to suitors that can give her family and her the best future in the ton.

ranger’s apprentice characters as customers i have served

DIMON seems to think that I am incapable. He continuously talks through me taking his table’s orders and talks past me to my boss (who is standing at a different table). He continuously says that [my boss’s name] will “take care of it”, but joke’s on him, my boss is leaving soon and I’ll be taking care of literally everything. He’s with a big table, so I first put down the food before explaining what it all is. However, Dimon keeps asking me what each dish is even as I am serving and scolds me for getting the wrong sauce even though I didn’t, the one he wants is just placed on the other side.   

MORGARATH tries to gaslight me into believing that his food was cold when I served it. He ordered a tipan - those things are so hot when they get out of the kitchen that I need to use special equipment to put them on the table. It is impossible for it to be cold. But granted, the rice might’ve been served cold - I don’t know, so I ask. No, he admits, the rice was warm when I served it. But it was cold 45 minutes (!!!) later. I promise to think of a solution for the next time, and sure, I mention it to my boss, but neither of us will do something with the feedback. 

TENNYSON believes I am his personal server. I should prioritise him over everyone else. He waves at me to get my attention - I walk to his table and tell him I’ll be back shortly after having served someone else’s food. When I walk around with that food, he keeps waving at me. I wish he would leave. 

KEREN simply doesn’t pay attention. I just took his table's drink orders; once I serve them, he orders his drink, meaning that his table takes me twice as long as it should. I need to say “sir? SIR?” thrice before he turns to me and orders. When I bring out the order, he doesn’t remember what he’s ordered and is just staring blankly at me, expecting me to have remembered all sixteen orders of his table apparently??? He’s not even rude in a personal way, just doesn’t pay attention which is hugely annoying and slows me down. 

DEPARNIEUX doesn’t speak proper Dutch, which means that my bosses have literally shoved me towards him. Long live. He doesn’t seem to understand that I don’t speak French. I can serve him in three different languages but alas, he gets hugely annoyed that I don’t speak his language. I end up getting his order wrong but my bosses agree that it’s his fault, and they are just as happy as I am when he’s gone. 

RUHL just fully ignored me and walked past me into the restaurant without asking if there’s still free tables and letting me seat him. He sits down at a table for four (he’s a table of two) even though I could seat him at a dozen other tables. He also calls me “sweetheart” and “love”, I want to punch him but that’s not allowed. He makes racist and xenophobic jokes which I won’t repeat here. (For context, I am a very white and blonde server at a Chinese restaurant owned by a Chinese family.) My boss is *this* close to kicking him out. 

MONTAGUE asks me a question. I try to answer it. But he interrupts me two words in to repeat the question??? Sir???? Shut up???? When he has to pay he says the bill is incorrect. I’m pretty sure it’s not because I triple-checked but sure. What’s wrong? He only ordered a small eater’s portion which is half a regular portion so he should be paying only half of the regular portion’s price, he argues. Sir. Sir. That’s not how this works. I point out that the prices of the small eater’s portions are mentioned in the menu. It literally says we charge a little more than half the price because it comes with a complementary salad etc. He says I am reading it wrong. Sir. I literally wrote that part of the damned menu. My boss bails me out and ends up making him pay the price I charged. I’m pretty sure he would’ve thrown him into a moat if he’d had the chance. 

BUTTLE is asking for our Indonesian dishes. I say we have none. “But you’re an Indonesian restaurant!” We are not??? “It’s what it says on your website!!” Sir, I just rewrote the text on our website — it surely says we’re a Chinese restaurant. He keeps demanding Indonesian dishes and I keep telling him that we don’t have those. There is an Indonesian restaurant down the road though, so maybe he just got the wrong address? No, he’s at the right place (he really isn’t). He ends up leaving angry.
