Congratulations to the class of 2018! Today is our Commencement day at Harvard.
Located along the Charles River on Memorial Drive, Dunster House was one of the first two student houses built under the house plan of President Lowell. Designed by the architectural firm of Coolidge, Shepley, Bulfinch, and Abbott, Dunster House was completed in 1930. It was named in honor of Reverend Henry Dunster, the first president of Harvard College. The clock tower of Dunster is modeled after the Big Tom Tower of Christchurch College at Oxford University. Read more about the history of Dunster House.
Famous Dunster residents have included former Vice President Al Gore and actor Tommy Lee Jones, who were roommates in the late 1960s.
The first historical photograph shows the interior of dining hall at Dunster House, and the second photograph shows the exterior of the House from across Charles River.
