nini being the one to take discord out of the competition is so dinini to me bc. throughout the competition theyve worked with each other (during the parody and then the rusical) theyve worked against each other and at the end of it all. they're pitted against each other. one final time. its a sore reminder that at the end of it all theyre rivals in a brutal competition. all the camaraderie they've accumulated along the way or the illusion of it means nothing bc ofc fundamentally they cant be friends. bc of the nature of the competition. bc of the nature of themselves and who they r as people. and them mouthing the lyrics to each other on the main stage. god i have so many feelings ab this. they're both aware that they cant be friends. theyre acknowledging the tragedy. theyre both feeling this tragedy pass thru them at once as they gaze upon each other for the last time as rivals. as almost-friends. as almost-somethings. which could've been more, had they met differently, had things been just a little different. fuck
