I was not prepared to love THE LEGEND OF ROCK PAPER SCISSOR by @drewdaywalt and @mr.adamrex as much as I do. Here's a tip to all adults who pick it up: THIS BOOK MUST BE READ OUT LOUD. TO CHILDREN. And, if you can swing it, in the voice of a WWE announcer. I read it out loud about 10 times last week, to students of all ages, and every time the audience was RAPT! Also, the school where I am the librarian held an all-school-rock-paper-scissors competition a few months back. It took about and hour and ended with all 600 students watching a kindergartener play a 5th grader. The kindergartener won... Daywalt's origin story is weird and wonderful and, even though we all know how it ends, he makes it fun and even a bit suspenseful getting there. And Adam Rex's illustrations? Amazing! Who else could make dinosaur chicken nuggets look both adorable, frightening and delicious all at once???
