Finally got to work on this early #DirkBikkembergs leather jacket, from 1989 if I remember correctly. Restoring a garment invites you to discover its details: Asymmetric panels, wild topstitching and subtle flourishes of weird scattered throughout the design make it a real stand out. In my opinion, #Bikkembergs is one of the most important menswear designers of their generation. Their work was complex, generous and beyond fashionable. If there ever was one picture saying 'respect the drip', this Fall 1996 Dirk Bikkembergs runway look is exactly what they mean. Blue bungee cords (of boots) worn as a bolo tie necklace and a weird stick-on eye patch. Is he a cowboy? Maybe. Is he a pirate? Perhaps. Is he the main character in his life? Definitely yes. We went and included some bunge cord boots, previously sold in our auction. Now two pairs with black elastics are up for grabs.
