Finally got to work on this early #DirkBikkembergs leather jacket, from 1989 if I remember correctly. Restoring a garment invites you to discover its details: Asymmetric panels, wild topstitching and subtle flourishes of weird scattered throughout the design make it a real stand out. In my opinion, #Bikkembergs is one of the most important menswear designers of their generation. Their work was complex, generous and beyond fashionable. One for the heads: #Sabotageby #PaulHarvey circa 1993. This is quite a find: Sabotage might be the first tech-wear label ever and Harvey later changed the game at Stone Island & CP Company. The idea of a sweater that has been distressed to the point of no return might seem a little obvious nowadays. Except, this is the very first time this concept was done. Allegedly the distressing was done to imitate the effects of a shotgun. 🌞 Upon taking a closer look, we can see that the execution of this piece is fantastic. Extra heavy loopback jersey on the outside and thick camo-print waffle knit on the inside make it reversible. Wide cropped body, dropped shoulders and long arms make it look like it was designed a moment ago. New in: A winter suit by #DexterWong from the mid 1990s, crafted from thick woven synthetic material featuring a visually arresting op art pattern. The material feels more suitable for upholstering the seats of a 1970s bus than suiting, and looking at it for a few seconds makes you see things. 👁 The silhouette of the jacket is narrow with exaggerated shoulders. Spring is here but I wanted to post this one forever. New in: a true oddity by Japanese label #Jipijapa. Made from particularly heavy melton wool with grained cowhide panels. The silhouette is typical 1950s; boxy-fitting with a chunky rounded collar and cute slits on the back. What on earth is going on on the front though? Instead of typical sewn buttonholes (what an overdone concept, right?!), there’s metal eyelets threaded with waxed cotton cord. This cord is used to secure fish-shaped leather pieces (wut) that function as the button placket. 🤪 Ivory and glass beads top it all off. 🐏 After doing some research hoping to understand what all this fantastic nonsense details are about, I found some Inuit (Arctic indigenous peoples) clothing, and especially non-traditional designs produced in the 1960s-1970s for presumably tourist market purposes. They have simple animal shapes and stitching done with thick thread. Do you see the resemblance? Maybe there’s something even closer out there. A cute little jacket from #Endyma's archive that has proven quite popular among designers. 👔 #MarcoTagliaferri blouson with chest and sleeve pockets from the early 2000s. Some subtle Y2K energy here and lots of great ideas. It's a nicely finished piece with an exaggerated curved hem, hand-sewn snap buttons and a very specific higher collar pulled from mid-century military tunics. Hope everyone's having a nice weekend. Here's a cool #KansaiYamamoto bomber jacket with a studded harness overlay. 🌶 #Kansai often drew inspiration from aviator garments to create unique and graphic sportswear. Dating from sometime around the late 1980s, this piece is crafted from a composite material consisting of a washed nylon outer and a tactile brushed interior. The fabric's broken texture complements the directional design, with reinforced straps that give structure and drama to the boxy silhouette.
