I saw this beautiful Tamlin fanart, and I just read the caption. Apparently, there's a fun fact that according to op, Tamlin's last word in his limericks for Feyre is "position." I wonder if this is true?
It is some beautiful fanart, even if I don't agree with the last caption. 🥲 It reminds me too much of the Tamlin Being a Little Bitch candles and other "Tampon" merch you see on Etsy. Why exactly would I want something like that in my house? What does little bitch even smell like? Is it a different scent than big bitch? And if it doesn't smell anything like his canon "earthy and crisp" "rain and spring meadow" scent, then I don't want it. ... Sorry, I got sidetracked. That's not what you were asking.😅 Moving on!
So, having studied the limerick scene in depth for my fic "Dirty Limericks" (which is why I'm assuming you sent this ask), it's actually rather vague when "position" is used, if it's used at all.
We know that Feyre underlines the word in chapter 13 and adds it to her list (which include "at least forty" "barely legible" words), but in chapter 19, the only words we know are mentioned are in the first and second poems, as follows:
unusual, queue
slaying, conflagration
"Position" could be in any of the poems, but the realization that he's using her list only comes after he reads four of the five limericks. Unfortunately, we don't know what any of the other words on her list are. (Believe me, I looked. 😑)
I do like the theory that "position" was used in the "dirtiest and foulest of them all", but it wouldn't actually be the last word. Not to nitpick, but if it was in the last poem, it would either appear in the second line or the fourth line. Tamlin said so himself:
“Final word in the second and fourth line of each poem,” he said, jerking his chin toward the papers in my hands.
After all, for a poem to qualify as a limerick, it must have five lines, and each line must have between five and seven syllables. It must also follow an AABBA rhyme structure, and, while this is optional, it should be silly. 😜
tl;dr: It is a fun theory, but it is not a fun fact. "Position" could not be the final word in the final limerick because Feyre's words are only used in the second and fourth lines in a five-line poem.
If you read my fic, you can see what I did with the word "position" in the third poem, but I just had fun with the fifth poem. 😁
