*whispers* you see that cq update yet
i did, and it was so good. I loved the gorgeous storybook style art, and finally learning so much about Nightmare Knight, who is probably my favorite character. Im not gonna lie, at first i was a little let down. I was kind of hoping there might be a bigger story here, like a greater threat behind NK that pushed his actions.
But i love how he just naturally grew from his first conquest and changed into who he is now of his own free will instead of because of external reasons. And his ultimate reason for continuing to play the villain is essentially to keep his children, the Disastermasters, alive! Thats so sad, and puts everything about his interactions and relationships with them in a new light.
two things stood out to me:
WOW does this complicate the situation with Glitchmaster. She hates NK for betraying them, but it turns out that he’s been carrying on all this time for the sake of her and the other masters. To keep them alive. I wonder how she’ll react when she finds out? Will she consider the conscience he developed that keeps him from conquering properly a mistake?
NK kept saying his “purpose” was “to spread fear, to consume this world and move on.” He says it twice on two separate pages. This might just be gigi deconstructing the “evil big bad is evil for no real reason” trope, showing that as Nk’s starting point, but i cant help but wonder if theres more to it. It makes it sound almost as if NK himself was created by someone and told that his purpose was to destroy. Is there actually still a greater villain behind the Nightmare Knight?
