forgive me if this makes me sound stupid, but sometimes thoughts are late.
the whole "wrapped" thing that everyone is doing - specifically youtube and discord, as I use these - keep telling me that I have my privacy settings enabled and therefore cannot see the information.
what would happen if I turned my privacy settings off? would it show me that they ignore my privacy settings and collect my usage data anyway and just decide to make it seem like they don't? or would it say "sorry try again next year :)". I have a feeling I know which one is the answer, but im not too keen to test this theory.
basic hypothesis: if I turn off my data privacy settings, then discord will still show me my stats for the year in the checkpoint for 2025, thereby completely invalidating the so-called "privacy" settings it claims prevent them from doing this
This Is funny as fuck. Sorry I can't have a summary of my private messages and groups, I turned uber massive data collection off. What a not so subtle way to get people to turn that setting off to let them gather more data
Discord gave me the banana frame so I had to update my pfp
Discord only gives you a checkpoint if you have "please let us spy on you" permissions enabled btw. They put you in others' checkpoints even if you don't btw. I have seen multiple where the slides directly contradict each other btw.
we're already past the critical threshold for end of year "wrappeds" being cool or fun. the 10 thousand that come out next year are going to be so annoying and awful. i do not want to see your walmart wrapped or your ploob wrapped or whatever they come out with next year we live in hell
I personally believe Discord is trying to convince people to enable data collection under the guise of showing you fun numbers about your account
oh... i need to touch grass more
