That's so true!!! I remember seeing a reader fic trashing amber but if we follow the canon ,mark is eve at the moment. Like they are literally doing mental gym to put amber into this. I don't justify her behaviour season 1 but she was trying to do better. I don't like to think about that but sometimes i ask myself if it's not just mysogynoir. Like Rex was the worst character being a asshole and a cheater but then turn a new leaf and everybody forgive him but amber doesn't get same treatment🙄.

literally that’s what it is misogynoir ( i believe that’s how you spell it don’t crucify me) and rex is a prime example. literally cheated and lied on eve plus was a dick oh but the moment he gets shot in the head and changes all is well.

when it comes to female character development (unfortunately especially black female characters) it is mostly ignored in favor of the male characters — especially the male lead.

i can’t count on one hand how many times i’ve argued with dude bros on my tiktok that just trash amber’s character, while simultaneously loving anissa.

i literally avoided watching invincible when it first came out because of the amber hate and i was so convinced she was the worst. actually watching you realize homegirl is seriously just a trouble teenager???

god forbid a girl want to be around her bf (it’s more complex then that yes, but still)

so seeing writers (especially fellow female writers) dog tf out of amber makes my skin, crawllll.. i don’t get it. just write her out if it’s that serious.

Genuine question from someone who just became a CATS fan a few weeks ago - does Skimbleshanks make the train late or not??

Skimbleshanks is quite possibly my overall favorite character from CATS, but honestly the answer to this question would kind of deeply affect how I think of him, because it’s kind of rich of him to insist he never lets anything go wrong on the Night Mail train when he himself was the reason it was late in leaving!

So basically there’s two things in particular to examine. The first (emphasis mine):

“At 11:42 with the signal overdue, and the passengers all frantic to a man/  That’s when I would appear . . .”

This gives you the idea that he DID make the train late - the signal was OVERDUE, it was SUPPOSED to already have happened, and Skimble's absence was holding it up.  But interestingly, if you like at the original poem from “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” the line is different!  The line of the poem (as opposed to the song) goes:

“At 11:42 when the signal’s nearly due, and the passengers are frantic to a man/ Then Skimble will appear . . .”

Why was this changed, I wonder??  I really wonder . . .

There’s also the fact that the last line calls the train the Midnight Mail, which sort of implies to me that it’s supposed to leave at 12:00 midnight precisely, so if Skimble appears at 11:42, he’s not late at all, he’s just maybe cutting it a little close.  What makes sense to me is if it’s suppose to have the All-Clear signal and close the doors 15 minutes before fully taking off, so 11:42 was VERY CLOSE to being late for the signal at 11:45, but it was still all good in the end!

I personally like to think of it that way, and that Skimble was just using his time efficiently doing important Luggage Inspection before it was time to report for patrol duty, and that he in his own cat-knows-best way knew exactly what he was doing and has his schedule perfectly arranged for maximum efficiency, even if the silly humans don’t follow his logic or get why he does what he does.

Am I wrong??  Is there a right or wrong answer??  In historical train schedules??  In the canon of CATS??  Is there a true CATS canon??

I'm not pan so I can't speak for pansexual people, this is purely just my opinion as just a random mf, but I don't really like the new pan flag?

And I don't understand why this whole shebang is going on, like if the creator has some opinions you don't agree with that's perfectly fine /gen but the flag has been separated by the creator for a long time now, when I think of the pan flag I don't think of the creator I think of the community meaning, so using a new flag entirely cause you don't agree with the creator even though most people (like me) doesn't know who they even are just shows that this is OUR flag (the lgbtq+ community's) and not theirs anymore so I just don't see what's the point in changing it

Also the fact they used to different stripes to represent "love regardless of gender" and "love regardless of sex" is just not sitting with me ngl

do you know anything about emma trosse? she was a sexologist that wrote about homosexuality in the late 1800s. she apparently identified as 'asensual' while being married to a man, which honestly seems better fitting than asexual in that context because it doesn't frame it as a sexual orientation. people use her as an argument that it's a long recognised orientation though which is questionable i guess.

It's hard to find decent info on her in relation to this ask. A lot of the stuff talks about her life or that she coined the term asensual but beyond that don't have anything else.

From what I gather, asensual is pretty close to the basic idea of asexual now. But framing it as a boundary in a relationship rather than a sexual orientation. It's not about lacking attraction, but rather not desiring or wanting that type of affection.

I think if the split attraction model is going to keep getting used, the idea of asexuality would be more of an add on term to your sexial orientation. Without the SAM tho, its a seperate orientation that means you hold no romantic or sexual attraction to anyone. My FAQ goes into more depth for that.

As for that last point. Asexuality as a concept does actually go back to 1869 with the term monosexual which just meant people who only masterbate and don't date. 1896 you get anesthesia sexual or no sexual desire. The actual term asexuality was used in 1969 in the satanic bible and the asexual manifesto in 1972 (the first defining it as no sexual desire and the later defining it as a political statement wanting to make a point that women don't need relationships to be full filled).

Honestly... The idea of asexuality HAS been around a long time. There have always been people who don't find anyone attractive. The terms used and how it's looked have always been different. If you find men attractive and want to date them, but aren't comfortable with sex, I'd still just say you're into men. Just cuz you have a boundary doesn't make you any different from someone with a different boundary. You both like men.

But that's where things get muddled in the history of the term and concept of asexuality throughout history. Sometimes it's no attraction at all, sometimes it's specifically about the desire for sex itself. And the Split Attraction Model itself is DEFINITELY a newer concept. As is all the gray ace shit like demisexual and what not. The SAM is what is new, not so much the idea of asexuality. And I think that's important in discussing the term.
