Outside of the cave there was a large collection of floating plastic and debree, as almost everywhere these days. Just today I noticed how at least part of those bottles and bags end up in the sea. In Malta at least, garbage is being put on the street in bags rather than in big collection point bins. With a bit of wind the bags end up falling over, rolling into the road and getting squashed. The plastic disperses itself and over time ends up washing into the sea. An other reason is the chronic lack of normal, small garbage bins on the island, and especially Gozo (the 2nd smaller island). People end up wedging their rubbish behind bus stops, or tossing it in the fields after walking for a kilometre in search of a bin.
