I love shooting Morro Rock, an extinct volcano that sits just off shore of the harbor in @morrobayca @slocal @visitcalifornia Next to the rock, on the other side of this shot, is a smaller rock feature I often shoot as well, especially when the waves are crashing against or over it. The rock is the last in a line of extinct volcanos know as the 7 sisters and is an ancient native ground of the Chumash tribe. The consistency of the Rock, amidst the changing climate or time of day, allows for a place to both challenge myself and also compare my photography to previous shots of my own or those of others. As we head into spring here on the #centralcoast the fog will often bury the rock and the inland turn warmer and more sunfilled. Most fish in the sea have planktonic larval phases that drift in the open ocean until they find a reef to settle upon. Researchers are still working on how they find reefs but it seems they can essentially smell the chemicals and hear the pops and snaps of a healthy reef in the water which helps them decide when to end their drifting and settle down.
