So this is a hard question because there aren’t any characters in discworld that I particularly hate. The most dislikeable antagonists happen to be a delight to detest. Even the New Vampires who basically farm humans in Carpe Jugulum are just so enjoyable. The way Terry crafted baddies makes them interesting and fun to read about. There are perhaps a few characters that leave me a bit bored, but none that stand out in my mind. I will say, though, I don’t care for the indistinguishable nameless wizards. I don’t think the senior wrangler or whoever has a discernible personality.

On a different note, a funny thing...

I read the books quite out of order at first, because I thought, you know, forty-plus books? Who’s going to read them all? So I picked the ones that sounded the most interesting at random, and accidentally deprived myself of context. When I read Hogfather, I didn’t know who any of the wizards were, nor why I was supposed to care about them. I could barely tell them apart and I was annoyed. I am now quite fond of Ponder Stibbons and archchancellor Ridcully.

The same thing happened to me when I read Monstrous Regiment in January of 2015, because it was the third discworld book I ever read. I remember thinking something along the lines of, who’s this Vimes fucker and why am I supposed to like him? I don’t know him! Get back to Polly, already!

If anyone had told me then that I would eventually barrel through the Watch series in a month to follow Vimes’ fascinating character arc, and that Fifth Elephant would become one of my favourite discworld books, I don’t think I would have believed it.

Going Postal, if your newbie is looking for fun and you’re looking for someone to enthuse about Discworld with. It’s got everything. It’s got Horrible City, Cunning Wet Moustache Man, Suave Bastard in Chief, Golems, and Woman Who Might Stab You Through The Foot. Plus, you don’t need too much context to appreciate it.

or Small Gods, tbh, if your newbie doesn’t read much fantasy and you want them to see that fun can be serious too.

I’m just posting a new quote every time I get asked this question. I love in Guards! Guards! when Vimes says “Listen, if anyone ever sets fire to this city, it’s going to be me.” Also all of Sybil’s scenes in Guards! Guards!

👍 how did you get into Discworld?

In (I think?) 2010, I saw XKCD comic that mentioned the series in passing, so I googled it, and was vaguely interested. So I looked up Prattchett in my local library, picked up The Truth and Jingo, (somewhat at random because the premises looked interesting,) read them, liked them, but didn’t want to commit to a massive book series, so I didn’t really keep reading them. In 2015, I read Monstrous Regiment, and then decided, hey these books are good and I’ll read more of them, but still wasn’t interested in reading the whole series. I read some of the early ones that summer, and kept reading Discworld books on and off over the years, enjoying them in a casual way. 

I got really into Discworld late this January, when I saw a top-notch text post about Vetinari by @july-19th-clubthat got me extremely interested in the City Watch arc, and I guess I’m “in the Discworld fandom” now because I’ve read 17 Discworld novels since the fateful day and I talk about Discworld daily on @patricianandclerk‘s discord server, which I open every day like it’s the morning paper.

Like I said, this question is too hard! But I have a soft spot for the one man one vote joke. Every time I see it I’m like!!! That’s him! That’s the man!

🌟which Discworld novel do you think is funniest?

No clue, honestly. Making Money had me laughing out loud recently, but there are some DREADFUL dad jokes in Pyramids, which I just finished, that I am still thinking about fondly.

Dwarves! I live for dwarf politics and dwarf culture. That’s the good stuff! 

Wizards for amusement but witches if I actually want stuff to get done. 

Vampires are good times all round and I have a soft spot in my heart for (sc.: I thirst on main for) Margolotta, but I’m going to have to go with werewolves because Angua is a fascinating character. She’s at once really competent and really insecure and I love her. She is a very good girl. 

🌟 which Discworld novel do you think is funniest?

I mean, all of them, but one of my favourite jokes ever is the bit in Unseen Academicals about how Rincewind told Ridcully that he never knew his mother because she ran away before he was born. I guess that’s where he gets it from.

What a loaded question! Thank you for asking it ❤️

Drumknott is top of mind so I will start with him. I think he has a hidden need for speed. He was the swiftest clerk in his class. It is why he loves the train so much and why he wants a bicycle at the end of raising steam. Vetinari will indulge him and Drumknott will be a meance wearing a full covered helmet and entering as an anonymous racer and winning every time. Drumknott and Adora get on well due to a common need to unsettle Moist, in the same vein as Vetinari and Sybil. Also Adora gets on well with him as Drumknott shares a lot of qualities with golems. Drumknott is not a dark clerk but all the dark clerks respect and follow his orders as readily as Vetinari. Vetinari has not asked him to be one as they both know he isn't made for it. This is part of why vetinari begins to bring him with him after events in the Truth. He wants to be able to keep an eye on Drumknott. Drumknott is not allowed any wear near the ward that houses those who think they are the Patrician, where Cosmo ends up at the end of Making Money. He was once held captive for hours till he had convinced the occupants that he needed to delivery their demands as was his job as the patrician's clerk. He has had stalkers due to those delusional and not yet being treated. Drumknott is usually able to handle it and get them to somewhere safe. I am going to stop here because I could go on about Drumknott all day I think 😅

Moist thinks Vetinari is the hogfather due to witnessing events that take place in the book hogfather. (I wrote about this one in a fic recently). Moist isn't sure Drumknott isn't a ghost. Moist will miss Drumknott greatly when Vetinari retires and Drumknott goes with Vetinari. Moist had been hoping he would stick around.

Vetinari takes more after his mother's side. I think his Aunt is his maternal Aunt. His mother died in childbirth. Vetinari and Sybil were close childhood friends and he looks forward to her hogswatch newsletter despite their teas that keep him more than up to date. During the Snapecase years they did not speak. Sybil wrote but he did not answer for her own safety. Sybil became more closed off due to her Father's worry and Vetinari not there to encourage her. Her father supported Snapcase and when Lord Ramkin passed away, Snapcase had thought of divorcing or more likely killing his wife and marrying Sybil. Snapcase was not trusting of women and thought even though she kept to herself she was a major threat. He would then simple dispose of her after. He would have her land and money. This caused Vetinari to speed up his own plans to become Patrician. Sybil and Vetinari reconnect after G!G! Properly. Her and Vimes relationship protect Sybil from rumors not that she would care but Vetinari would.

And to end on a fun one Vetinari is basically a sugar Daddy and will get Drumknott gifts he would not dare buy for himself. Like the model train in Raising Steam is for "research" and after that will be given to Drumknott to do as he pleases.

I am always up for talking Disc and have way more but I am getting long-winded. Thank you for asking!!!
