On the one hand, it is devastating that Pratchett isn't around to contribute material to the source books and campaign modules, because he would have been very into it.
But on the other hand, everything I know about the man implies he would have insisted on a system that used THAC0 and disapproved of new fangled soft systems like AD&D
For all those Discworld fans wondering if the rpg game is going to be any good: yes. Yes it so is.
alright, it keeps failing every time i try to post the link in any form, so i’m just posting text.

Ok, my expectations on this have been raised substantially upon looking over the quickstart. Presentation-wise they used a lot of the original Paul Kidby art, which is obviously fantastic and helps set the tone. In terms of mechanics, they use their own narrativist system where the player rolls a die vs the Narrativium d8. You justify a larger die by what traits your character has. One of the examples in the quickstart has a PC with the 'I spend more time in the Drum than the Library' trait to win a drinking contest. Wordplay is encouraged to find creative interpretations of the characters traits.
My hope is that even with WotC walking back the ogl changes people with still look into other game systems. There's so many options besides just D&D and Pathfinder. Here's some:
Coyote and Crow: a D12 based rpg designed by Indigenous Americans. The world is is an alternate history where America wasn't colonized by Europe
Glitter Hearts: a powered by the apocalypse game. You make a character with a secret identity to fight evil. Like in Sailor Moon or Power Rangers. You can even have a giant mech.
Discworld RPG: a GURPS rpg set in Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Have you ever wanted to live in Ankh-Morpork? Visit XXXX? Travel the Counterweight Continent? You can in an rpg based off the amazing Discworld books!
I'm only going to list 3. I might add more later but if you see this post please reblog and add any games you enjoy. I love learning about new systems!
Discworld RPG - can't wait
A tabletop roleplaying game set on Terry Pratchett's Discworld
I am so excited for this game, I'm not sure how I will be able to wait until next August for it's release (actually I probably fill the hole with Call of Cthulhu RPG) . I have run the quick start with a couple of Discworld loving newbie RPG players and it was really fun. I did feel a bit out of my depth as a GM having not run anything since my mid twenties (I'm now mid forties) but must have done ok as they are willing to play more.
The system is very driven to a more narrative style of play, getting players to roll to capture escaped swamp dragons was fun. I did have to rush the ending due to time constraints so with hindsight should have split it into a two part session.
I'm definitely looking forward to running more RPGs after this.
