How Tough are Death Guard?
With their Codex out for a little while now I have finally had a chance to sit down and read through it.
Most of the stuff in the book revolves around not dying and dishing out tonnes of Mortal Wounds.
I thought I would have a look through and see how resilient they really are.
Disgustingly resilient: Honestly becoming the bane of my life is this rule. I have not finished my Death Guard army yet, so I have only faced against them. They can ignore any individual wounds on a 5 or more.
I will use the Lord of Contagion as my example of trying to keep him alive in a match.
As a Toughness 5 and 6 Wounds, rocking up with a 2+ armour save and 4++, it is pretty tough.
The Lord can receive some buffs from other Death Guard units that it will need to survive even longer.
Malignant Plaugecaster is a psyker that can learn these two powers:
Miasma of Pestilence: Enemy -1 To Hit rolls
Putrescent Vitality- Add 1 to Strength and Toughness.
Plague Surgeon: Re-Roll 1 for the Disgustingly Resilient Rolls for friendly within 3.
Deathshroud Terminators: When a character is Hit by an attack, roll a 2 or more and a Deathshroud intercepts the attack.
Warlord Trait: Revoltingly Resilient- Add 1 to Disgustingly Resilient (Unless it is a Mortal Wound)
Our new Lord of Contagion will now look like this:
WS 2, BS 2, S 5, T 6, W 6, A 3, LD 9, SV 2, INV 4 and Disgustingly Resilient is on a 4 (5 on Mortal Wounds), re-rolling 1.
Also having the Terminators allows them to intercept the hits.
This is pretty scary, but very high in points. Although for a normal army this combination will not always be viable, I think combinations similar to this will start to appear.
And several of these effect Mortarian
I might keep digging into this book before I finish my Death Guard, want to find the best way to run them.
