Okay so this may come from the fact that I’ve recently been able to do Disney with some really committed people, including a family member who knows all the tricks from working there so here is a short list of how to ACTUALLY make the most of your day at Magic Kingdom in Disney World. These are mostly inspired by my trip with @goodoldfashionlovergirl for dapper day. Feel free to add anything dear.
-Firstly, unless you are gonna be going with kids or people who don’t want a long day, COMMIT TO THE DAMN 16 HOURS that the park is usually open. I did open- to-close at Dapper Day and listen, I know it’s a long day but you will end up getting to do everything and you will be so happy you stayed so long. Also make sure if you stay until close that you get to see The Goodnight Kiss on the castle. It shows at about 12:30 or 1:00 am (look up the time if you’d like to see it)
-If you are planning on riding the Peter Pan ride than run to it as soon as the park opens. Don’t wait and decide to come back to it. Speed walk your ass over to fantasy land and get in line. This is because for the first few minutes of the day the wait will only be about 10 minutes but throughout the rest of the day it will consistently be around 90 and to be honest it isn’t worth that long of a wait.
- It’s a small world isn’t worth going on but the wait is usually only about 10 minutes so if you really want to go on it’s good if you’re waiting between fast passes. If you are scared of dolls do not go on.
-If you are able to, fast pass all the mountains. (space, thunder, and splash) they usually have the longest wait of the popular rides.
-speaking of long lines, Seven Dwarf’s Mine is not worth the about 200 minute wait it can sometimes be, either get a paper fast pass for it or don’t go on. The ride only lasts about 90 seconds.
-Go into the Rapunzel bathrooms near fantasy land and look up at the ceiling, just do it.
-Ariel’s ride is lovely but here’s my personal experience: In the day time the wait can be excessive but even if it’s not, if you are planning to stay at the park until close wait until after the fireworks and then go. There is usually no line or almost none. When I last went we ran there after fireworks and we were the only people on the ride.
-Bring a backpack and a change of clothing. Just incase
-If you go on the pirates of the Caribbean scavenger hunt you can get free fast passes for Pirates. I haven’t personally done it but I plan to next Dapper Day when I’m dressed as Captain Hook.
-Go on splash mountain at night for three reasons:
1. shorter line
2. you don’t have to go through parts of the day soaked
3. It looks so cool when you go down the drop and it’s dark outside and you can see the entire park lit up.
- Go to inside shows when they are just about to start so you never have to wait in line for them. They are also a great time filler between fast passes or just when you’re a bit tired and want to sit down. I suggest to save these for mid day when it gets hot.
-Don’t be scared to go to Disney parks in the rain, less people will be there. You’ll have a wonderful time I promise, just bring and umbrella.
-Festival Of Fantasy is so lovely if you’re a fan of the characters. Seriously watch it and if you want to interact with characters make sure you are in the front. (little tangent but last time I saw it I blew kisses to tons of characters and a few highlighted reactions were Peter and Wendy catching the kiss, Ariel waving at me, and the best thing to ever happen to me, Eugean giving me The Smolder)
-You may not think so, but You have plenty of time, especially if you’re staying open-to-close, don’t be scared to look at stores.
-Bring. You’re. Own. Water. Bottle!!!!!!!!! Seriously buying drinks in Disney is so expensive.
-If it’s supper hot you can totally go walk through the little water park thing in the carnival area, as long as you don’t mind being a little wet it’s actually quite fun. Can say from experience pushing your friends in is very fun.
-Don’t buy something unless you still want it at the end of the day. It’s easy to get swept up but unless you can’t stop thinking about The Thing, wait on it.
-That being said, get ears. They can run a little expensive I know, but you’ll be happy to have them I promise.
-If you are someone who deals with thigh chafing and are wearing a skirt or shorts listen to me right now, BRING GOLD BOND OR DEODORANT to put on the inside of your thighs so they don’t hurt.
-Country Bear Jamboree is fucking hilarious go see it.
-It’s totally okay and acceptable to happy cry (or sad cry if need be) at the park. Unless someone is an ass, no one will judge you. When I saw Rapunzel’s castle the first time i sobbed my eyes out. And when Peter pan waved at me I absolutely lost it and cried for 10 minutes. It’s totally acceptable at the parks.
-It’s not bad to have your phone out sometimes like in line and such but if you’re with people please talk to them. Just discuss Disney stuff or anything, but please talk to the people around you.
-Be excited.
-If you want to meet a character it doesn’t matter if you think you’re to old, please go meet them. I said I was fine not meeting Merrida last time I went and I’m still sad I didn’t go see her. It’s top of the list next time.
-Please don’t buy a pirate sword for your kid if you are going to have to carry it all day, it’ll drive you absolutely insane (I know from experience)
- One store in Tomorrowland has charging stations if your phone dies. just bring a charger.
-Avoid the quick service restaurant in Tomorrowland, It’s the busiest one in the park, If you wan’t quick service I suggest the one in fantasy land.
-There is a second kind-of fireworks more just projection, show on the castle about 20 minutes after Happily Ever After. It’s much smaller but it is quite lovely still and watching it with my friend was surreal.
-Take pictures, take so many. Take pictures of your friends when they aren’t paying attention and they are freaking out over something they saw. take pictures of cute things you see. take pictures of everything.
- Parents I beg you, please do not get the princess carriage stroller, I know it’s cute I KNOW, but I also know that everyone who sees you walking around with that is plotting your murder for having such a massive stroller.
-Don’t try and plan everything, it’ll be so much more magical if you just let things happen. Planning some is good, but not everything.
There’s definitely more tips than this and I’m not an expert but these are all from experience and work great. Just let yourself be a kid and have as much fun as you can. Sing your way through the park if you want. It’s the happiest place on earth if you let it be.

We played in the park until dark, but made it to the castle just in time for Wishes. Sometimes, magical moments are those in the park with family riding rides and enjoying the park instead of waiting out fireworks.
