This beautiful image was the first one I ever saw as a promo for the Disney film, way back in 1989. It was my very first glimpse of mermaid Princess Ariel and her friends, Sebastian and Flounder. I just love how the three characters are rendered in this image, especially Ariel in all her aquatic beauty and grace! In my opinion it’s one of the most perfect/on-model renderings of Ariel I’ve seen in the 30 years since the film was released. I also love how the underwater foreground & background elements are presented as an ideal stage on which to spotlight the trio of characters. Back in the day, this promo image made me SO excited to see the film when it premiered in November of that year.
