Just found this video of Hysterics playing what might be my favorite song by them, "Correct Me", in Barcelona (or BarTHelona, I wonder if bilingual/trilingual Catalan kids ever call if "BARFelona"? Like I'm really thinking about it now)
I spent this entire evening sweating/working on my dissertation prospectus, and after thinking so much and so hard about 'the origins of hardcore' and how to explain what it actually means to my department's faculty members, I'm having a lot of feels about this song. They are feels that are potentially 'problematic', in that they are almost certainly skewed by how I've internalized punk hierarchy and ideas about 'heaviness' and what is tough and hard and 'good' enough to be counted as hardcore
At the same time, they are also feels of appreciation, of what hardcore is capable of when it's not on some white masculinist bullshit, and also? Of what a fucking banger this song is. Way to kill it/subvert the 'only white dudes can be poignant when talking about mental illness' trope, bbys.

one girl's bitter journey to the end of her dissertation
having to re-read the Red Wedding for dissertation
holy shit I hadn't mentally prepared myself for this, knowing what's going to happen makes it even worse
IT IS FUCKING DONE AND I CAN BE HAPPY
...and also drink.
*weeps into unfinished manuscript*
I HAVE 500 WORDS TO GO. WHY IS THIS SO FUCKING HARD...
Right, 2000 words left. So nearly done...
3900 words to go. We're getting there, we're getting there.
