Finding an Anchor
A suitable anchor (or a braking tool when you are going through trauma or traumatic therapy) is usually a place or item that you can have/hold/be or imagine where you feel a sense of relief and well being both physical and emotional.
A safe place/activity should be something real, or known from life so you can get a real somatic experience of it. Sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings. It should be an anchor that is associated with calmness and safety.
Anchors can be used to reduce hyper- arousal in therapy sessions. Particularly useful during EMDR.
