Oh man, after reading more of this blog I've come to the realization that Richard Dawkins is more of a hindrance to atheism than anything else. I retract my previous statement about agreeing with most of what he says.
we've done some good today here

I’M LAUGHI NG SO MUCH
While I was reading Wolves, when mention of Levi came up I was surprised by how the other characters talked about him. As far as we know, he seems to be a braggart and quite different from canon. What prompted you to change his character so drastically? Sorry if you've already been asked this.
No, no one's asked about Levi's depiction in Wolves yet, you're cool.
First and foremost, this version of Levi is entirely based around how I saw his character at the time of the original conception of the story--back in August of 2013. The strongest images I had of Levi at that time were his brash nature about being the best soldier in the survey corps, his callousness regarding Eren's interrogation and handling, and the overall sense I had that he was seriously just a huge dick in a tiny person's body.
But even if I had more of the stuff we've had in recent chapters about him maybe having some pathos or interesting backstory...the truth is...
I really dislike Levi.
Like, beyond the whole poisonous attitude I've seen in fandom to make him a super supreme untouchable badass, or make him this apathetic hateful dick weasel that somehow people still want to fuck. I just don't like his character. I think he's abrasive and unnecessarily cruel, and I have not seen it put across clearly enough that he's actually torn up about the things he does.
We see Hanji having emotional turmoil about the revelations about the relation between humans and titans, and about what they're doing to get information to further Erwin's cause. And when some dude tries to get out of helping Hanji, Hanji just gives a nervous grin in the face of hell and says the survey corps has a losing record anyway.
Levi, meanwhile, just acts like a dick to everyone and gets away with it because he makes some weird moony eyes every so often? I don't buy that he's sympathetic or a great warrior fighting for the sake of humanity. God, much as I think Eren is kind of a nit, I think Eren is infinitely better in terms of a shonen protagonist by virtue of the fact that he is fighting based out of emotion, out of rage and the deep desire to avenge humanity, undefined as that sentiment is.
What bothers me about Levi so much as a protagonist--the bravado about his strength, the cruelty he shows to subordinates he thinks are tools, what I consider to be the general lack of caring about people outside his own circle of people--makes him a great antagonist to me.
Here's a greatly powerful enemy facing our heroes, espousing the beliefs of the army they had once served in. He shows himself to be unrelenting, cunning, and determined. He sees the wolves as lesser beings, displeased by the uncleanliness they've brought to his country. Mikasa and her battalion would only be the tools to open the north to him, and he mocks her directly when she doesn't do exactly what he wants. There is no teaching him about wolves, especially when he follows his orders from Erwin.
I don't really think I've changed his character all that much. I just took the protagonist shine off his actions and gave it a bit of a villainous shade to emphasize that he's not that good of a person.
(And this will be me pleading that no one try to change my mind about Levi. I'm not going to read any of the spin-off manga, I'm not going to read fic focused on him or his relationships, and I'm really not going to budge on how I feel about him. I don't like him. I am allowed to. I am not saying that anyone should start hating him. I just see him as being more useful as a villain for me, and that's how he'll play his part.)
