Business Students on Top of the Game
On Friday March 25, Future Business Leaders of America students from throughout the district gathered to compete in tests that not only determined whether or not students move on to the state competition in Orlando, but also to show their skill at business problems facing today's community.
"The competition was a great chance for the students to learn about business," Co-Sponsor Mrs. Sheri Willingham said. "Though it was a bit unorganized at times, it was an opportunity for Edgewood to shine in their business skills. I'm glad we went."
Other Co-Sponsor Mrs. Mimi Louzao considers FBLA a family affair. With her son beginning the program at Cocoa Beach High School years ago, her daughter in the club now at Cocoa Beach and herself co-sponsoring the club at Edgewood, she invests a lot into the club.
Her hard work along with the students' is manifested in the results of the competition. First place winners included Hayley M., 11, Morgan N., 11, Lindsey D., 9 and Tyler O., 9. Chris B., 12, Jacob F., 12 and Meredith W., 11 received second place in their area along with Tori S., 11 on her test. Alex P., 10, won third place in his competition as well.
Clay T., 8, was glad that he attended the competition because he not only ran for the Vice President office for next year, but also learned something new.
"I enjoyed learning about American Entrepreneurship," he said.
His sister Meghan T., 11, agreed.
"I also enjoyed finding out that other high schoolers share the same interests in business as me," she said.
With competitions ranging from Entrepreneurship to Business Ethics to Web Design, the students had their hands full throughout the day, but they said it was worth it, especially because they got to make a trip to RedBerry when it was all over.
