👩🏻‍🦳 Pardon me while I grace your Instagram newsfeed with a close up of my face - which I almost never do - as I wish to share something important to me.  Since I was in high school I have discovered that I have premature grey hair. When I entered the work scene it became more prominent so I started to dye it purple black, and later dark brown or mahogany, since my original hair colour isn't really jet black. Later on I got tired of dyeing it with chemicals as my hair started to get dry and thin out and I didn’t want to have to maintain it every month to keep up with my growing grey roots. So I got on the #grombre and #ditchthedye wagon. The hardest period of the process was when the grey was still too short to be dominant but too long to cover up, making me look like I just forgot or couldn't find the time to dye my hair. So the way I survived it is by using a headband to prominently show it off. That way, the grey “decorated” my front, contrasting against the black dyed hair in the back. Still, comments from people close to me sometimes affected me, such as “Where is grey a trend? At the old people’s home?” 🙄 But I pushed through and learned to ignore the negative vibes around me because life is hard enough without having to carry the extra burden of caring about and adhering to other people's opinion. Besides, why is it that men can get away with greys and be called silver foxes while women are criticised for looking older?! Anyhoo, 50 weeks and 6 days after my last dye, as pictured here, I am at the point where just one more trim will get rid of the rest of the dye. I am very happy with how my hair turned out. It so happens that the back of my head only shows about 40-50% grey while my front has a very bold streak of 90% grey, which I think makes for a great statement and a big middle finger to those naysayers who have always criticised my decision to go grey. Plus, I finally got that witchy Mallen streak I always wanted. On the other hand, it also serves as a reminder that I chose this boldly against the stream, for myself and no one else.
