The colour and the shape!

“A colour-based game that can also be played by people who have any kind of difficulty seeing colour.” - Global Gam Jam Diversifiers

While I was at the Game Jam I had a look through the diversifies and said to myself I was going to make a game based around this one, and here is finally is. I chose to make the whole game in 2D only using Unity’s inbuilt UI to help learn a little more about it.

The Idea

It was a very simple concept, match colours if they reach the top you lose. With this brainstorming came a time trial mode which didn’t have the lose condition and a puzzle mode where you must try and have a certain number of colours reamining at the end.

The Production

Hands down the most I’ve learnt while coding, learning how to transform UI objects, instantiate UI objects and randomly spawning objects. 

While I was making this I tested a version with rigidbodies so they fell once you destroyed the ones under it and it just became too easy as you could just ignore the top of the tower. This version is saved if I ever want to come back to it.

Colour Choices

Using this website I looked at the colour choices along the way. Here is a crop of the game, at most 2 of the objects looks the same so the symbols help to distinguish each colour.
