Wedding Diversity???? Almost.

First off I love the sims, always have, but I don’t normally get involved in the drama that occurs in the online sims community. But he new pack... I need to just point something out. 

What’s Wrong? EA and Maxis have been working their arse off to make this game more inclusive and diverse. However, in this new pack all about weddings and at that weddings in diffenent cultures, there is notably nothing related to Jewish weddings. 

This came to my attention when I was looking at the new wedding arches, none of them even remotely resemble a chuppah. Which made me sad, but that was before I noticed there wasn’t a single activity that even resembles Jewish wedding traditions. 

Granted there are group dances your sims can do, but nothing like dancing the hora or the mezinke. 

Most annoyingly, there’s no activity to break glass. I feel this would be a fairly simple animation to make and honestly if this was included I wouldn’t be mad about anything else.

Why Am I Mad? Jewish culture is very important to me, having it excluded from my favourite game in a DLC all about cultural diversity is just heartbreaking. 

In their defence, The Sims team has included nods to Jewish culture before, the seasons pack and the free holiday pack include menorahs and Channukah themed decorations. 

So evidently in this wedding pack, Jewish culture was either purposely left out or forgotten about. Frankly I don’t know which I’d be more angry at.

Okay so I don't know if everyone has this pinned to their dash, but I do, for the last couple days, and I'm not gonna lie, it makes me uncomfortable.

For one thing, I'm straight and there are a lot of straight people here, along with a lot of queer people. It's mostly (as far as I can tell) a fandom site, where people from all walks of life can blog, create art, write meta/fanfic, argue and gush over their favorite things, not somewhere that centers around or focuses on sexual orientation. Was I wrong?

Another thing is it's NOT "the queerest place on the internet". There are many places on the internet that have been created by and for LGBTQ+ folks, so is this a not-so-subtle way of saying you want straight folks to go somewhere else? Would queerfolks feel welcome on a site that pins "The Straightest Place On The Internet" on their dash? Of course they wouldn't. And if they have already spent years on the site before this happened, they would probably feel betrayed.

I guess it's not better to be open and diverse to Tumblr @staff like I thought it was.
