6:00 pm - Seraphina’s chambers
Seraphina de Medici had not made it to the party. A few weeks earlier, as she spoke to people, she had to excuse herself once or twice for coughing, taking little note of it and getting a drink of wine now and then. This had been happening for the past couple of days. She constantly had coughing fits, and a bit of nausea. Her fear was that she might be pregnant without having been wed, but this was not the case, for a little while later she bled. She took ill, and retired to her room for the past three days, sitting in her bed and not emerging. The only people who came in to see her were the servants to give her food and take care of her. A doctor now and then as well.
The day before the party, Seraphina knew exactly what was happening, and locked her chamber doors. Servants knocked, but she croaked out for them to leave her. Eventually, there was no response from within- the servants chalked it up to the lady wishing to have privacy.
The night of the masquerade ball, servants who were to attend Seraphina tried her door once more. Still locked and with no response, they grew worried. She hadn’t seen a doctor in a while, and her attendance at the party would definitely be noticed by a few specific suitors whose eye the noblewoman had caught. A few guards agreed to check things out. They rammed their shoulders into the door several times until it finally splintered and they forced it open. Immediately, there was a smell, and the buzzing of flies filled their ears.
Seraphina de Medici, golden hair splayed out on the sheets, was dead.
