This is the Bathysphere, designed by Otis Barton, and dived by him, and William Beebe, starting in 1930. At the time it was the deepest diving vessel in the world,
these dives were also notable for a number of strange fish that were described, but not photographed or captured. Five of the creatures remain unidentified.
