Diving Beetle (Genus Dytiscus) at my parents' farm last weekend. These Beetles spend both larval and adult life stages in water and both larvae and adults are predators of other aquatic insects. The individual in the photograph is a female, which can be noted by the grooves on its elytra (hardened outer wings). This female was possibly dispersing from a water source after mating, to move into another. . . . . . . #nature #ontario #dytiscus #dytiscidae #divingbeetle #beetle #beetlesofinstagram #macrophotography #naturephotography #backyardwildlife #norfolkcounty #norfolkwild #blognorfolk #insects_of_our_world #insect #coleoptera #aquaticinsects #invert_macro #insectguru (at Norfolk County, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_AD_Vog-E8/?igshid=u8bc7jz4tpwc

omg! Look at his adorable little suction-cupped tarsi! You can see the one next to his right eye really well. They use these for mating and catching prey. This little dude was swept into Lake Michigan from Otter Creek as well. He was at least as big as the baby snapper! #dytiscidae #divingbeetle (at Esch Road Beach)
