i would just like to say that any au which removes restrictions from a character to allow them to reach their full power is GOOD SHIT i am a little hesitant w the huxtis bc i see a little abusive relationship business there BUT i think it is a very very very good way for mr kestis to FINALLY shirk that jedi morality bs and toss his lightsabers around like the master assassin i know in my heart that he is ok thanx i’m out of characters ily bye
LOOK I LIVE FOR MORALLY GREY CHARACTERS OK???
Like I love canon Cal and would not trade him for the entire galaxy but c’mon! There is so much potential there to explore the downsides of a rigid Good vs Evil view of the force, and how personal experiences shape our worldview and decisions.
Cal has so much power at his fingertips, and he’s seen so much? Why wouldn’t I want to explore the What Ifs… of his character?
Play with us! play with us in this space!! Come play with us in this cloudy moral space!!
And you are 100% right to be hesitant. It’s not a healthy relationship by any means (To make it completely healthy and still in a canon-ish setting would require some. woobifying. which i am… okay with - in moderation- in complete aus where you’ve literally just taken base characteristics - personality, appearance - and applied A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SET OF RULES AND ENVIRONMENT to them, but if you’re keeping with everything else canon, recognize villains as…. villains? maybe? just a thought. they’re awful, recognize that.)
But I get it. One character is someone who I think a lot of people can connect to on a deep level, and feel some pretty strong emotional attachment over, while the other is, no joke, A Terrible Human Being Who Ordered The Destruction of An Entire Star System And Thinks Mass Murder in the Name of Order is Valid.
That’s not a pairing that is universally (or even really kind of) appreciated. It makes people uncomfortable, and that’s completely valid. If it upsets, you do whatever you have to, to keep your experience safe. If that means blocking all mention of a particular ship? do it!!! block creators if you have to! Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too sensitive for not wanting to seeing content that you, for whatever reason, find upsetting. your experiences and the effect they have on you, whatever form that takes, are valid.
My specific ideas of this particular AU involve the eventual balance of power, but at the beginning its very much onesided. And its NEVER fully healthy, but I recognize that, and don’t hold it up as a romantic ideal by any stretch of the imagination.
I don’t write it to express my wants, or what i think is right. I write it to explore concepts that I know are grey or, problematic, in a way that lets me examine my assumptions, ask questions, and educate myself as I do it.
