Basement Reno Day 2- Scraping & Washing
I forgot to post this last night! So, here it is!
We lined the room with plastic to help keep the dust down where Naomi and I have to sleep. It’s pretty effective too!
Tigger wanted to help, so he needed some gear of his own!
From day one pictures, you could see spots that looked really bad. We had to scrub the whole wall with a wire brush. That got rid of the chipped and peeling paint. It also got rid of some of the effervescent (which I think is a chemical biproduct of moisture getting in). After we scrubbed the walls, they had to be washed with something I can’t remember the name of. It was to make sure the effervescent is gone and to, ya know, wash the walls. The big chucks missing in these pictures are from where the wall was pretty much crumbling. That’s up next to be patched! One more thing before I end this one:
This is my super sexy renovation look 😏😂

Basement Reno Day 262728392826- Done (mostly)
Not living in a construction zone is gunna be so amazing! We still have some cleaning to do, and stuff to finish putting away, and organizational stuff to handle. All the construction is done though! We got the electrical wired into the box today so the new outlets work now!
The wall to the left in the pano, the wall straight ahead, and the wall to the right are all a pale green. The wall my TV is against is a warm grey. All the drywall is hung properly and we have a water barrier now! THE RENO IS FINALLY OVER THANK YOU GOD!!!!
So, here are a few more pictures, don’t mind the mess we still have to deal with!
Basement Reno Day 4382- More Paint/Stain
Ok, so maybe it just feels like day 4382... We got the last of the painting done! We painted the wall my TV is against a sort of purple-ish grey. We also put stain on the gate at the bottom of the stairs, and painted the door that leads up to the backyard.
It’s almost done, the door needs to be put back on the wall, some of our furniture needs to be pulled back out from the closet, and the stuff we had to box up to make room for the reno needs to be put back out.
There are a few other things we will do a bit later. I’ll talk about those when we get there. It’s just after midnight and I’m exhausted. It might be a little while since we are out of reno money (the kittens have sucked some of that up too. Already $300 between the vet, bottles, and formula, and they still need to be fixed).
Off to bed for me! Sweet dreams! 💞
Basement Reno Day 13- PAINT
IT LOOKS LIKE A REAL WALL! WITH PAINT!
It’s kinda hard to tell in the pictures, but the walls are a pale green. Three walls are green, and tomorrow the last one will be painted a pale grey!
It’s still a hot mess down here. Stuff everywhere and all that. When all is said and done I’ll get a picture of everything put together and cleaned up!
Basement Reno Days 10 & 11- Drywall
THEY LOOK LIKE WALLS! GUYS I HAVE WALLS!
Ok, now that that’s out of the way! Day 10 was spent rechecking the studs and we found a few that needed to be adjusted, the. We started on the drywall. We got about half of it done, mostly the pieces that didn’t need to be cut. Yesterday (day 11) we finished the drywall and I was over he moon. Today we are doing the mud and tomorrow paint! (I hope!)
Side note... MY CAR HATES ME!!!
It has decided to hold the driver seat hostage. The driver door won’t open. It’s a long story, but essentially it’s a common problem with the G6’s and I just (pft just..) have to get the inside door panel off (keep in mind, the door will be closed for this) and carefully disconnect all the electrical stuff, and then I should be able to get to the locking mechanism. The only quote I got for someone to do it for me for $300 minimum and I noped right off that phone call... since I am not physically able to climb into from the passenger side, my mom did to get the car moved, but I won’t be able to use my car until it’s fixed.... we can’t do that until tomorrow because of other stuff happening... Yay me!
Basement Reno Day 5 &6- Insulation and Home Depot
Ugh, so all of Day 5 was cutting and glueing the foam. It took literally all day. Let me just tell you, adhering foam to the wall is a lot more work than you think!
The ceiling down there is only 6’7” instead of a standard 8” ceiling (basements are usually weird though) so it took some Tetris skills to get the whole wall covered.
Day six was actually yesterday (Thursday). We had to go buy the drywall and the 1x3’s to frame the wall. The first Home Depot didn’t have a truck available for rent so we had to go to a different one. Incase you are unaware, 8x4 ultralight drywall is still really fucking heavy (and awkward...).
After getting the stuff off the shelf and onto the cart, then getting it from the cart into the truck (two guys saw us and came to help), then offloading it Into the garage... my god we were both tired! We had to reposition the stuff after we took the truck back because the garage roof has a leak. It was about 5pm when we were done. Both of us too tired to do more...
Today, we have to go mosaic a sign for my mom’s neighborhood then hopefully get the basement frame work done. We’ll see!
Bonus info! I fell down the front porch steps in March because I am a pillar of grace and injured my left knee and ankle. When I’m on my feet too much, this is what my calf, ankle and the top of my foot does now (but don’t worry three doctors have told me nothing is wrong with it 🙄)
