I'm going to piss off some people by saying this, but Beyoncé can't hold a candle to Mýa.
Mýa's self-titled debut kicks the sass out of Dangerously in Love any day of the week. In the late '90s and early oughts, the ghetto supastarlet was churning out much catchier hits – like 1998's "Movin' On" and the 2000 club smash "The Case of the Ex" - while the lyrical content of Queen B and Destiny's other children was seemingly limited to repeating the words "no," "bills" and "jumpin'."
The double-platinum noseringed R&B songstress was all over the charts, dropping hot singles like "Fallen" and "The Best of Me" while collaborating with the likes of Ma$e, Jadakiss and Sisqó. She guested on songs by Jurassic 5, Foxy Brown, Beenie Man and the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
And who could forget her sexy-as-hell contribution to a cover of Labelle's "Lady Marmalade" alongside Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Pink? Mýa may share that Grammy four ways with the other strong-voiced women, but her light, three-octave mezzo-soprano voice shone brighter than any of the other vocals on that single. Her vocals are like wo!
Now the 34-year-old singer is touring on her six-track EP Sweet XVI (which dropped on iTunes in April), and her eighth studio album is set to drop later this year. She's set to take over the Fortune Sound Club on Wednesday, August 27, for an intimate sultry performance, comprised of her new smooth tunes contrasted by her unforgettable hits. Best believe you'll be able to get your groove on to "Free."
The show starts at 9 p.m., with opening performances by turntablist DJ Adlib and all-female dance crew Diamonds in the Rough.
Tickets cost $35 and are available at fortunesoundclub.com or in person at Dipt, Zulu, Beat Street, Highlife, Red Cat, East Side Urban.

DJ Adlib is bringing the Hi-Hat Club back to Cologne. „Haus & Garten" is the sixth installment of our producer series and we're taking things to the next level with this one. Not only because Adlib has chosen to share the spotlight with Black Spade, Declaime, Frank Nitt and Planet Asia but simply for the music the turntablist turned producer has cooked up in his „Haus & Garten"(„House & Garden").
Mixed & mastered by engineer extraordinaire Erik Breuer at Brewery Studios Cologne.
