DJ CAKE
DJ Garfield
Kaman asked me to make a cake for her brother's 30th birthday. She wanted to remind him of his childhood days, so she chose to make it Garfield themed. :] Tony also happens to be a DJ and Kaman found the perfect picture to combine the two!
Can you tell Tony really liked his cake? :P

DJ Cake!! (Marshmallow Fondant Recipe)
Today I have something different from my other posts. This post is going to be more about cake decorating then basic baking recipes I have posted before. Today I will be giving out a recipe for homemade marshmallow fondant that is very easy to make, you only need a microwave and its way cheaper then the store bought fondant you can buy. I personally like the taste of the homemade one way better. As for the cake I just made a simple chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream I'll make sure to post those recipes up soon. :)
This cake was an order from my friend who wanted a DJ themed birthday cake for her boyfriend John. The only preference she had was that she wanted the cake in University of Florida's color theme. So this is what I came up with. I hope that they LOVE it.
(Just a picture of the back view of the cake.)
Ingredients needed for Marshmallow Fondant Adapted from allrecipes.com
Yield: 2 Pounds of fondant
Marshmallow Fondant - Crisco Vegetable Shortening - Marshmallow 1 package (16oz) - Water 4 tablespoon - Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon (I would recommend clear vanilla extract if you want white fondant but if you don't have any its fine but it may be not as white. I don't know if that makes sense oops) - Sifted Powdered Sugar 2 pound, divided (It is very important that the powdered sugar is SIFTED)
Direction
- Crisco everything you're going to use. (This is very important this little step is going to make the whole fondant making process way easier.)
- In a microwavable bowl place the marshmallows and the water. (Make sure you lined your bowl with crisco.) Place the marshmallows in the microwave and in 30 seconds intervals melt the marshmallows. Stir the melting marshmallows in between each intervals. When it's all melted stir in the vanilla extract.
**Helpful Tip** rub Crisco all over your hand before you start working with the fondant.
- Place half of the sifted powdered sugar on your work table and add in the other half batch of powdered sugar into the melted marshmallow and mix it all together. Then remove the mixture out of the bowl and start kneading that mixture on the work table with the powdered sugar. Continue kneading until the mixture is smooth and no longer sticky. About 5 to 10 minutes.
- Form the fondant into a ball and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- To use, allow the fondant to come to room temp. (But if you don't have time you can place it in the microwave for 10 seconds then knead it to being it back to life.) Then roll it out onto a flat surface dusted with powdered sugar. (This step helps the fondant not stick onto the surface.)
- Now you are ready to decorate. You can color it any color you want with food coloring. (I like to use the wilton gel icing color they work great on anything you need to splash some color onto your wonderful creations.)
There are endless possibilities on what you can create with this fondant recipe. Have fun and try out different designs. Enjoy!!

Go DJ, that's her DJ.
In August, my friend Joanna asked me to make a cake for her boyfriend's birthday. :D Her boyfriend is a DJ so she asked if I could try to replicate his mixer table. I did the best I could... :]
This is what his real mixer looks like:
and this was my cake version:

Jojo said her boyfriend loved the cake! And at the end of the day, that's all that matters!! :D
